Summary: The Director of Technical Product Content is responsible for leading and optimizing the management of product information across the organization. This person will be primary business owner for our Product Information Management (PIM) system, driving the strategy for workflows, attributes, and data integrity of the technical product content within that system. The ideal candidate will establish corporate standards for transactional product content attributes such as dimensions, UPCs, regulatory information, and shipping guidance. This person will also solicit feedback from internal and external stakeholders to understand additional attributes that need to be collected to help drive sales growth. Additionally, this role will manage third-party vendors responsible for product content solutions, ensuring they meet performance expectations and contractual obligations.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in product data management, a strong understanding of content standards, and experience establishing efficient processes to enhance data quality. This person should be a proven problem solver who is able to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including colleagues from IT, sales, merchandising, marketing & operations. The candidate should have a customer-focused attitude with a strong understanding of how product content supports sales growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Others may be assigned)

Product Information Management (PIM) System Ownership
  • Serve as the business owner of the PIM system, defining and driving its strategy, workflows, and enhancements
  • Oversee the management of product attributes, classifications, and data structures within the PIM system.
  • Collaborate with IT, sales, merchandising, and operations teams to continuously improve PIM functionality and integration with other systems
  • Work in partnership with the Director of Marketing Content to support marketing content needs in the PIM system


Leadership & Management
  • Manage a team of 3-5 direct reports, including PIM system administrators and product data associates
  • Hold team accountable with performance-driven goals
  • Hold third-party vendors accountable for meeting deadlines and adhering to contractual requirements


Data Integrity & Quality Control
  • Conduct routine audits to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Implement best practices for data governance, validation, and enrichment to enhance the quality of product information.
  • Proactively identify and address data discrepancies, gaps, or inconsistencies.


Process Optimization & Automation
  • Establish and refine processes for collecting, maintaining, and updating product data, ensuring efficiency and scalability.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and workflow improvements to streamline product content management.
  • Work cross-functionally to reduce manual data entry and improve the overall data lifecycle.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Management, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in product content management, data governance, or a related field.
  • Strong expertise in PIM systems (e.g., EnterWorks, Salsify, Stibo, Akeneo) and experience managing product data structures.
  • Knowledge of content management best practices, including taxonomy, metadata, and product content syndication.
  • Experience with data audits, validation processes, and workflow automation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and drive cross-functional alignment on product content strategies.
  • Preferred qualification: experience in building product content strategy to drive growth with internet resellers


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manage a team of 3-5, including PIM system administrators and product data associates. Hold third party vendors accountable for contractual obligations through routine check-ins.

Education and/or Experience:

Undergraduate degree required. 7+ years experience in product content management

Computer Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel and PIM experience required.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to document business processes and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

Organizational Skills:

Must be detail oriented and exceptional in organization techniques. Must be self-motivated, with ability to set and achieve goals, and set priorities of multiple tasks in order to meet deadlines.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and make sound business process decisions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
