Position Summary

Under limited supervision, plans, directs, andadministers programs and initiatives designed to address Social Drivers ofHealth specifically related to Pueblo Nation populations to enhance theefficiency and delivery of clinical, educational, and other resources of theHealth Sciences Center to address the health and cultural needs of New Mexico Pueblotribal communities and the Pueblo community members. Directs the NativeAmerican HERO Health Extension Hub for Pueblo communities, includingcollaboration with higher education, healthcare, Indian Health Service(I.H.S.), Tribal 638 health clinics, community health improvement andphilanthropy partners. Identifies and promotes opportunities for new and/orenhanced programs and services, supports major grant initiatives, overseesstrategic program planning and development. Collaborates and assists thecommunity-based organizations (HEROs, Partner HEROs, Tribal/Native AmericanHEROs) contracting with Office of Community Health (OCH). Provides directionand support for the development of UNM HSC outreach policy and procedure.Serves as community engagement representative for UNM-HSC in Pueblo, Tribal,urban, and rural communities.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Manages and administers a variety ofcomprehensive programs and projects related to the organization, development,and implementation of community engagement in primary health, behavioralhealth, and tertiary special care within Pueblo/Tribal communities, as well ascommunity engagement related to health professions education and healthsciences research.
2. Collaborating with Health Extension Team andimplements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategicplans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmaticand operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.
3. Develops and implements plans and strategiesfor engagement and outreach services and programs and projects; documentoutcomes to assess effectiveness and appropriateness of efforts within thecommunity, and provides leadership in the planning, development, and managementof new initiatives.
4. Participates in the organizationaldevelopment to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives:
Oversees recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of Tribal HERO/HERO administrative staff
Works in collaboration with Partner HEROs/community-based organizations within the region that are contracted with OCH to identity and address Social Drivers of Health needs.
5. Supports development of OCH proposals andbudgets as needed. May also provide assistance to community partners withdeveloping proposals and budgets.
6. Establishes and maintains relationships withTribes, tribal organizations, healthcare providers in tribal health, andagencies to cultivate and strengthen partnerships to leverage resources, sharebest practices, and maximize impact in addressing tribal health needs andofficials to facilitate and promote service development; represents programinitiatives and organizes institutional resources to support these efforts.
7. Plans, develops, and implements strategiesand improves resources to address Social Drivers of Health at a local levelthrough program implementation and collaboration with Partner HEROs, NativeAmerican HEROs, Tribal community programs in the region; plans and directsmajor grant initiatives.
8. Provides support and consultation togovernment and legislative agencies in the formation and development oflegislative initiatives and public policies in area of expertise.
9. Participates in the development andimplementation of HSC and UNM Health Systems policies and procedures; may serveon university planning and policy-making committees.
10. Represents the HSC and UNM Health System, asappropriate, to various institutional divisions as well as externally to media,funding agencies, individual provider groups, community organizations, and tothe general public.
11. Oversees, coordinates, and integrates theoperations, programs, and services provided by a wide variety of professionaland technical staff.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive work experience with experience withNM Tribes and Pueblo Communities
  • Ability to organize, implement, and administercommunity outreach, services, and activities in collaboration with healthprograms in Tribal communities.
  • Knowledge of operations and procedures,policy, and health needs of Tribal communities.
  • Ability to train others and foster acooperative work environment.
  • Ability to use health communicationeffectively with Tribal Communities. .
  • Ability to effectively interact withgovernment officials including tribal government at all levels.
