Description:

PRINCIPAL EPITAXIAL GROWTH ENGINEER, MICROLED FABRICATION

Hyperlume is a semiconductor company with a mission to transform data center connectivity with the world's fastest and most energy-efficient microLED-based interconnects. With AI models exceeding 1 trillion parameters and training clusters of more than 100,000 GPUs, higher levels of connectivity, driven by higher bandwidth, lower latency and lower energy consumption are needed to reach AI's full potential and solve some of the world's most challenging problems. As the world enters this new era of artificial intelligence, Hyperlume is committed to developing cutting-edge connectivity solutions in months, not years.

Hyperlume is seeking a highly-skilled Principal Epitaxial Growth Engineer to lead the development and optimization of high-speed, ultra-efficient MicroLEDs. This is a hands on role, and the ideal candidate will have extensive and relevant experience focused on Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) growth for visible-wavelength LEDS. The ideal candidate will also have a deep understanding of epitaxial growth processes, material characterization, and LED design for high-speed response.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead MOCVD growth of GaN-based and related materials for visible-wavelength LEDs.
  • Optimize epitaxial growth processes to achieve precise control over thickness, doping, and uniformity.
  • Develop LED designs for high-speed response and data communication applications.
  • Adapt growth strategies to address challenges in micro-device design and fabrication.

Collaboration & Integration
  • Partner with fabrication and device design teams to align growth parameters with performance requirements.
  • Provide feedback on design and fabrication feasibility based on material characteristics.
  • Contribute to the development of next-generation high-speed LEDs and device architectures.

Characterization & Quality Assurance
  • Perform advanced material characterization using tools such as:
    • SEM: Analyze surface morphology and layer uniformity.
    • AFM: Measure surface roughness and interface quality.
    • XRD: Assess crystal quality and strain.
    • TEM: Examine interfaces and defects.
    • SIMS: Profile doping concentration and composition depth.
  • Analyze characterization data to identify defects, optimize growth processes, and improve material quality.
  • Ensure materials meet performance standards for high-speed LED applications.

Process Development & Troubleshooting
  • Resolve growth challenges, including defect mitigation, compositional control, and doping uniformity.
  • Develop and refine MOCVD growth recipes to improve yield and scalability.
  • Monitor and maintain MOCVD tool performance for reliability and high-throughput operation.

Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain meticulous records of growth processes, characterization results, and performance metrics.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to share findings with cross-functional teams.
  • Contribute to publications and intellectual property development as needed.
