THE OPPORTUNITY
This role will be the financial bridge between Finance and Engineering, helping to ensure data-driven decision are made across customer projects and internal research and development initiatives. This role will work closely with Program Managers and Engineering leaderships bringing financial insights to the forefront of project planning, execution and performance evaluation.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Customer Projects Financial Management
Prepare monthly financial reports on project financial performance, including revenue, costs, margins and profitability.
Identify cost-overruns and provide actionable insights to business partners.
Support the development of customer proposals from a financial perspective.
Ensure project revenue is recognized in compliance with US GAAP.
Liaise with the Accounts Receivable department to ensure timely and accurate project billing.
R&D Initiatives Financial Management
Work with Engineering leads to establishing budget and forecasts for R&D initiatives.
Monitor and track spend for each R&D initiative across multiple systems.
Develop and maintain financial models to evaluate budget and return on investment for new R&D projects.
Liaise with the Accounts Payable department to ensure external vendors' invoices are coded to the proper project.
Liaise with the Engineering leads and the external specialists to ensure SRED and other R&D tax credit claims are submitted timely.
Business Partnering
Provide support to Program Management and Engineering leads to help them understand and interpret project actuals vs. budgets.
Present quarterly updates to the leadership on project financial performance and key metrics.
Process and Systems Improvement
Partner with Project Management and Engineering to develop and maintain best practice policies and procedures around project accounts.
Leverage the ERP capabilities and Power BI to report financial performance timely and in a meaningful format.
Identify opportunities to streamline project cost tracking and improve the data integration between project management tools and financial systems.
What you will need to succeed
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (CPA or MBA preferred)
A minimum of 5 years of experience in FP&A or similar finance-partnering role.
Familiarity with project accounting and/or R&D investment tracking.
Experience with project accounting software an asset.
Ability to translate complex concepts and metrics into clear, actionable financial insights.
Ability to work with large and disparate data sets from multiple sources/systems and simplify the information for intended purpose
Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Project management experience is a plus.
Occasional travel required between Galvion facilities in Canada and USA.
