State Licensing and Certification Requirements (U.S.):
While federal law (CLIA) sets basic standards, state laws can add extra requirements. Here's a breakdown:

States That Require Licensure for CLS/Medical Laboratory Scientists:
California - Requires a CLS license through the CA Department of Public Health.

New York - Requires a Clinical Laboratory Technologist license.

Florida - Requires licensure through the Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel.

Hawaii - Requires a license for all lab professionals.

Louisiana - Requires licensure from the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.

Nevada - Requires licensure from the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health.

North Dakota - Requires licensure.

Tennessee - Requires a license for medical laboratory professionals.

West Virginia - Requires licensure.

Montana - Requires licensure for medical laboratory scientists.

States That Do Not Require Licensure:
Most other states follow federal CLIA guidelines and employer-based requirements.

Certification through national agencies like ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or AMT (American Medical Technologists) is often preferred or required by employers even if the state doesn't require it.
