DSHS Yakima Valley School Psychologist

, Residential Habilitation Center is hiring a Psychologist to join a highly respected team committed to helping clients with developmental disabilities have the supports they need to live healthy, safe, and inclusive lives.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Although each day is different, the following duties encompass the normal activities:
  • Direct and coordinate the work of psychology associates and other professional staff;
  • Serve as the psychological consultant to the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).
  • Provides comprehensive psychological evaluations for newly admitted residents within 30 days following admission.
  • Each resident client completes psychological evaluations every year as part of the annual Care Plan process.
  • Provide evaluation and behavioral plans for any new short-term admissions, including crisis intervention/prevention plans, as requested.
  • Plan, execute, and participate in treatment programs.
  • Coordinates and trains staff accordingly.
  • Provide maintenance of programs through monthly reviews and quarterly reviews with IDT during the Care Plan process and as part of the Care Plan process on an annual basis.
  • Participate in Care Planning meetings along with IDT. Attends quarterly medical reviews, psychiatric reviews, and other clinical meetings for assigned caseload.
  • Prepares and presents status reports to the Human Rights Advisory Committee as scheduled and as requested.
  • Collaborates and consults with schools/vendors for individuals on assigned caseloads.

Yakima Valley School is a Nursing Facility for persons with developmental disabilities and is located on a park-like campus in central Washington state, with great views of the surrounding area. It offers dry, sunny weather, excellent restaurants, and a diverse community.

The facility houses many services for the benefit of its residents, such as an onsite kitchen, laundry, pharmacy, and support services staff (Psychology, OT, PT, Speech, Recreation, and Social Services). In addition, Yakima Valley School offers respite services for individuals (with a developmental disability diagnosis) who live in the community and non-perm placement for individuals with a dual diagnosis (developmentally disabled and mental health disorder) who are in crisis and need assistance regaining community placement.

We're looking for professionals who have:
  • Ability to provide clinical leadership and direction to clinical staff and interdisciplinary team
  • Experience providing treatment to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health, and/or co-occurring disorders
  • Ability to plan and develop effective behavioral intervention strategies
  • Knowledge of diagnostic concepts for developmental disabilities and current treatment and intervention modalities
  • Techniques for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of individual treatment plans
Who should apply?
Licensed Psychologist, Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an American Psychological Association accredited university psychology department or professional school of psychology with three years of post-doctoral experience and one year of experience supervising other professional psychologists.

In-training positions are available, but you must be approved to take EPPP in WA state or have passed EPPP and applied for licensure in WA state.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs. For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.

Holidays
Full-time and part-time employees are entitled to paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.

Full-time employees who work full monthly schedules qualify for holiday compensation if they are employed before the holiday and are in pay status for at least 80 nonovertime hours during the month of the holiday; or for the entire work shift preceding the holiday.

Part-time employees who are in pay status during the month of the holiday qualify for the holiday on a pro-rata basis. Compensation for holidays (including personal holiday) will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status in the month to that required for full-time employment, excluding all holiday hours. Pay status includes hours worked and time on paid leave.

Sick Leave
Full-time employees earn eight hours of sick leave per month. Overtime eligible employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month, earn a monthly proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Overtime exempt employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month do not earn a monthly accrual of sick leave.

Sick leave accruals for part-time employees will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.

Vacation (Annual Leave)
Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at the rates specified in (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Full-time employees who are in pay status for less than 80 nonovertime hours in a month do not earn a monthly accrual of vacation leave.

Part-time employees accrue vacation leave hours in accordance with (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA) on a pro rata basis. Vacation leave accrual will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment.

Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.

As provided in , an employer may authorize a lump-sum accrual of vacation leave or accelerate the vacation leave accrual rate to support the recruitment and/or retention of a candidate or employee for a Washington Management Service position. Vacation leave accrual rates may only be accelerated using the rates established WAC 357-31-165.

Note: Most agencies follow the civil service rules covering leave and holidays for exempt employees even though there is no requirement for them to do so. However, agencies are required to adhere to the applicable RCWs pertaining holidays and leave.

Military Leave
Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year.

Bereavement Leave
Most employees whose family member or household member dies, are entitled to three (3) days of paid bereavement leave. In addition, the employer may approve other available leave types for the purpose of bereavement leave.
