Role Overview:
As the Staff Architect, Cloud Solutions, you will lead the design and implementation of cloud architecture across OMERS Pensions systems, with a primary focus on cloud migration initiatives. You will play a critical role in shaping the long-term direction of our cloud strategy and work across various teams to ensure that our solutions adhere to the best practices in cloud architecture, security, and scalability. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including business, engineering, DevOps, infrastructure, and security leaders throughout the entire lifecycle of cloud migration projects.

You will play a critical role in shaping the long-term direction of our cloud strategy and work across various teams to ensure that our solutions adhere to the best practices in cloud architecture, security, and scalability. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including business, engineering, DevOps, infrastructure, and security leaders throughout the entire lifecycle of cloud migration projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead cloud migration efforts for OMERS Pensions systems, developing and implementing cloud design, automation, and security practices.
- Serve as the Cloud Architecture SME, ensuring the successful migration of on-premise solutions to cloud environments.
- Take a leadership role in designing and coordinating cloud solutions that scale and meet the organization's needs, integrating cloud services and technology into the broader business strategy.
- Establish and maintain best practices and methodologies for cloud platforms and cloud migration.
- Collaborate closely with other architects in the solutions architecture team to design solutions, flows, documents, and technical evaluations with vendors.
- Develop and maintain cloud architecture diagrams and other technical artifacts, presenting them to business stakeholders, security teams, enterprise architecture, and development teams.
- Lead discussions with Product Owners and Business Leads to understand solution requirements, assess risks, and define cloud architecture patterns for both new deployments and migration scenarios.
- Create and maintain reference architecture documentation for development teams.
- Facilitate technical design sessions and work closely with external vendors to ensure cloud migration projects align with architecture standards.
- Ensure that cloud migration solutions integrate seamlessly with the broader business strategy and adhere to long-term organizational goals.
- Collaborate with IT security teams to ensure privacy standards are met and develop effective incident-response procedures.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and recommend new patterns, frameworks, and technologies to continuously enhance the business solution.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in IT, with at least 3 years focused on cloud architecture, engineering, and cloud migration.
- Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), including cloud migration and hybrid cloud implementations.
- Strong experience in scalability, performance, resilience, and security in cloud environments, with a specific focus on the migration of legacy systems to cloud platforms.
- Expertise in Cloud IAM, SSO, OAuth, OpenID Connect, and API security.
- Familiarity with CI/CD methodologies and deploying software onto Kubernetes and other cloud workloads.
- Knowledge of PaaS platforms (e.g., GKE, AKS, OpenShift) and container orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm).
- Familiarity with APIs, Microservices Architecture (e.g., Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, gRPC, Kafka), and containers.
- Experience with API management platforms (e.g., Azure APIM, Apigee, MuleSoft, Kong).
- Proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure automation and provisioning in cloud environments.
- A desire to keep up with the latest technology trends and innovations.
- High self-motivation and initiative, with a focus on results.
- Experience working with Agile development methodologies.
Nice to Have:
- Cloud certifications such as Google Cloud Architect, Google Cloud Security Engineer, or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) from any cloud provider.
