Chief Purpose of this position:

The Department of Neurosurgery isseeking candidates for a Neuro-Oncologist to contribute to our tripart missionat the VCU School of Medicine. VCU NeurologicalSurgery has a rich tradition of clinical and academic accomplishments withbroad impact. Over 100+ years, VCU Neurosurgery has catalyzed transformativeadvances in the care of neurosurgical disorders, and we are committed to theideal that such advances depend on exceptional, scientifically-informedclinical care across all areas of neurosurgery. Thisposition is an Open Rank (rank will be commensurate with experience andqualifications) full-time faculty position in the Division of Neuro-Oncology, Departmentof Neurosurgery. The faculty member will provide direct patient care,engage in medical student and neurology resident and fellow education, andparticipate in clinical research.

Position Responsibilities:

Clinical
Primary clinical responsibilities include care of Neuro-oncology patients inboth inpatient and outpatient settings.

Teaching Faculty member will teach medical students and housestaff. They will beexpected to participate in a series of formal conferences for the housestaffand students emphasizing issues in Neuro-oncology. They will attend weeklyGrand Rounds and lecture upon occasion as requested.

Research
The Division of Neuro-oncology is engaged in clinical and translation researchprojects. The faculty member will be expected to participate in and, whenappropriate, lead, clinical research and clinical trials.

Service
Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/orUniversity committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity intheir field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.

Required Qualifications:
  • MD or MD/PhD degree (or equivalent)
  • Successful completion of a neurology residency and neuro-oncology fellowship at accredited institutions
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Virginia
  • Board certification or board eligible in Neurology (ABPN) and Neuro-Oncology (UCNS)
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
