This is a grant-funded position and is contingent on availability of funds.

Position Purpose

The Professional Learning & Innovation (PLI) Specialist is responsible for supporting and providing professional learning aligned with District goals and initiatives. The PLI Specialist supports District initiatives in the production and execution of tiered, differentiated professional learning that meets the needs of FWISD teachers and administrators; adheres to professional learning standards and adult learning theory; collaborates and seeks input from the Content Directors and Coordinators to ensure that all professional learning activities align to state standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Maintains knowledge of professional trends and developments such as the state and national assessment, curriculum innovations, adult learning theory, and learning technologies.
  • Adheres to principles, theories, methods, techniques, best practices, and instructional strategies to support adult learning to build success in the classroom.
  • Identifies, supports, and assists stakeholders in the full and skillful implementation of content-specific and neutral professional learning, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), the state evaluation system, and other designated professional learning initiatives.
  • Maintains cooperative and professional working relationships with peers, students, administration and all other school/district employees.
  • Attends meetings, trainings and professional learning as directed.
  • Complies with federal time and effort reporting requirements.
  • Composes clear, complete, and concise reports, and other written materials using correct grammar and spelling.
  • The PIL Specialist is responsible for mentoring, reviewing, and awarding SBEC/CPE credit for both district-provided and out of district professional learning sessions through the district approved professional learning management system.

  • Knowledge of spelling, punctuation, syntax, grammar, and pronunciation of formal English.
  • Knowledge of regional differences in word usage and idioms as well as cultural and attitudinal differences, customs, and social norms.
  • Skill in researching and interpreting relevant data.
  • Skill in evaluating instructional programs and teaching effectiveness; program evaluation.
  • Skill in professional learning, technical assistance, and consultation.
  • Ability to aggregate and analyze student outcome data, gaining insights and communicating those insights to teachers.
  • Ability to design, develop, conduct and/or facilitate the presentation of employee professional development programs.
  • Ability to use software programs and technology mediums to create innovative and appealing professional learning presentations.
  • Ability to use instructional technology for e-courses, virtual, and blended professional learning.
  • Ability to use software to create spreadsheets, databases, and do word processing.
  • Ability to use clear, professional oral, and written communications and instructions.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work, manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Travel Requirements
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
  • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
  • Environment: Works in an office setting; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position; may be required to work evenings and weekends.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions; while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak publicly, or listen intently to other points of view.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university in a content area or an education-related area required;
    • Master's degree from accredited college or university preferred.
  • Certification/License:
    • Valid Texas Teaching Certification required;
    • Bilingual/ESL Certification preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 5 years' successful teaching experience required;
    • Experience with diverse student populations in a large urban setting preferred.
  • Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
