We are actively seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Controller to join our team! The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial records, effective internal controls, and supporting strategic financial decisions.

Pay is DOE: $110,000-$140,000/year

*The pay range offered to the successful candidate will be determined by various factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Compensation decisions are made based on the specific details and circumstances of each position and candidate.

Assistant Controller Job Responsibilities:
  • Maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Prepare divisional, client, and market reporting to accompany financial reports.
  • Provide support for the annual audit.
  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist in financial planning and budget preparation.
  • Assist with 401(k) and insurance audits.
  • Oversee accounting functions including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and payroll.
  • File state and jurisdictional taxes and maintain business licenses.
  • Provide financial analysis to support decision-making.
  • Review payroll to ensure compliance with tax laws, register with new states when necessary.
  • Implement, document, and maintain internal accounting policies and procedures.
  • Identify potential areas of improvement through performing risk assessments and internal audits.
  • Partner with Controller to drive improvement initiatives across the accounting organization.

Assistant Controller Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of accounting experience with progressive responsibility required, preferably at an architecture or engineering firm.
  • Prior leadership experience required.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including creating pivot tables and Vlookup formulas required.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with complex reconciliations.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Extensive experience in handling Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Ability to analyze complex accounting issues, make recommendations for improvement and implement new solutions.
  • Motivated self-starter with drive to get things done.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
