Job Summary:
A Product Service Engineer for Electric Rope Shovels in the Caterpillar Global Mining product portfolio will quickly develop a thorough and comprehensive familiarity with all aspects of these enormous machines in mining applications. Weighing 1.7 million pounds, these products are employed as the primary tool for moving earth in mines of all types around the world. Through direct, hands-on work and supervision of assembly, commissioning, maintenance, and operation of this machinery a successful Product Service Engineer will interface with people of all educational levels from apprentice tradesman to senior engineers and both customer and corporate management. To develop this expertise a Product Service Engineer should expect to travel internationally up to 50% of each year to experience the entire 20+ year life cycle of this machinery across our global market.

Job Summary:

What You Will Do:
- Provide technical direction, guidance and support to field service engineers, Dealers, and customers for the assembly, commissioning, and service of Electric Rope Shovels. This includes answering technical questions, reporting issues, etc.
- Coordinate and oversee mechanical changeouts, modifications, retrofits, major outages, machine audits, etc. as needed.
- Promote the resolution of field problems by investigating, analyzing, and working with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and other departments as required.
- Promote technical communications by coordinating service magazines, service letters, etc. to assist customers and other departments in solving and avoiding problems and to advise of improvements.
- Provides input to NPI (New Product Introduction) and CPI (Continuous Product Improvement) teams for the setting of serviceability, reliability, and durability goals and pilot test program.
- Provides technical product support to dealer personnel, subsidiary service groups, marketing units, design engineers, technical information division, test and evaluation, etc.
- Assist sales, engineering, etc. with the development of training programs, presentations, maintenance manuals, spare parts lists, and other projects that require field service expertise and product support.
- As necessary, travel to the field to improve communications with customers and dealer product support personnel, gather information, resolve unique and/or troublesome problems, provide training for customers and field personnel, etc.
Education requirement:
- Bachelor's degree; in lieu of a degree, demonstrate equivalent knowledge through professional expertise
What skills you will have:
Service Excellence:
- Working knowledge of troubleshooting mechanical systems.
- Working knowledge of collaborating with customers to resolve mechanical issues.
- Working knowledge of service, service engineering, or product support related areas
Effective Communications:
- Expert in writing reports that clearly define issues and resolutions.
- Working knowledge of delivering mechanical training to customers.
- Ability to communicate well downward, upward, and outward.
- Ability to communicate with the CPI (Continuous Product Improvement) and NPI (New Product Introduction) teams to help improve our existing models and develop the best new models.
Technical Excellence:
- Basic understanding of gearing, automatic lubrication systems, shaft alignments, and heavy equipment assembling.
- Ability to engage appropriate subject matter resources to effectively resolve technical issues.
- Ability to provide effective solutions to moderate technical challenges through strong technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues.
- Ability to understand the mechanical, structural, and electrical interactions across various machine platforms
