Position Overview:

Serve as in-house legal counsel in a professional, collaborative, and supportive office environment. Serve as primary in-house counsel handling litigation matters and international issues at a 501(c)(6) organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice on litigation matters and handle international issues involving the organization and its activities.
  • Oversee litigation and investigations involving the organization, to include developing defense strategy and implementing legal holds.
  • Advise and support activities of the organization's International Division.
  • Advise on FCPA and FARA matters.
  • Advise on data privacy matters.
  • Assist in the management of the organization's intellectual property.
  • Assist program staff on programs and agreements to ensure compliance with all applicable laws.
  • Coordinate information governance activities, such as records retention policies.
  • Counsel on corporate governance and organization policies.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate agreements.
  • Function as an integral part of a friendly, collaborative in-house legal team.
  • Work closely with other operational departments such as Finance, Human Resources, and Information Technology.

Qualifications:
  • Experienced litigation attorney with 7+ years legal experience.
  • Strong business sense and client focus.
  • Juris Doctor degree with strong academic performance during law school.
  • Demonstrated managerial aptitude and excellent client relations.
  • Ability to oversee the work of outside counsel.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters for multiple clients and set and adjust priorities.
  • Mature judgment, and able to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Previous in-house legal experience a plus. Membership in good standing in, or eligibility to waive into, the District of Columbia Bar.

The salary range for this position is $225,000.00 to $250,000.00, with the possibility of additional compensation through a discretionary bonus. The actual salary paid for this position will vary based on market data, an applicant's qualifications, relevant degrees, certifications, and other factors. Our full-time employees are eligible for benefits, including health care, vision, dental, retirement, and paid leave.
