Job Description:
At Regions, the Risk Model and Data Science Manager guides a team of data scientists and analysts within the second line of risk that focuses on answering deep-lying questions and uncovering new opportunities for risk mitigation. This team leverages leading analytic practices to design and build new, creative, high impact analytic solutions Additionally, this team researches, designs, implements and validates algorithms to analyze diverse sources of data to achieve targeted outcomes. This position is considered a subject matter expert and utilizes extensive experience and technical knowledge to manage complex tasks and projects.
Primary Responsibilities
This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
This position is incentive eligible.

Primary Responsibilities
- Manages a wide array of data scientists and analysts with varying experience and technical skill levels
- Works with business leaders to identify high impact opportunities
- Manages projects to timely conclusion
- Communicates findings to diverse audiences
- Works with Information Technology (IT) teams to access, explore and condition data, and implement and validate analytic solutions
- Develops and deploys solutions using data analysis, data mining, optimization tools, machine learning techniques and statistics
- Exercises ownership of the model development process and relationship with the business: from conceptualization through data exploration, model selection, implementation, testing, model documentation, and ongoing monitoring as well as business user training and support
- Embraces the company's approach to model validation, shepherding models through the validation process
- Ensures Risk related models work as intended
- Understands technical issues in econometric and statistical modeling and applying said skills to managing a wide spectrum of risks to the company
- Proactively identifies opportunities to apply quantitative methods to improve business performance and effectively monitor and mitigate risks
- Assists in ensuring adherence to Regions' model governance framework
- Assesses skill and technical knowledge within the team and curates development plans or recommends changes when necessary

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and ten (10) years of quantitative/analytical/STEM experience
- Or Master's Degree and eight (8) years of quantitative/analytical/STEM experience
- Or Ph.D. and six (6) years of quantitative/analytical/STEM experience
- Three (3) years of working experience with statistical and predictive modeling concepts and approaches such as machine learning, clustering and classification techniques, and artificial intelligence
- Three (3) years of working programming experience analyzing large, complex, and multi-dimensional datasets using a variety of tools such as Python, Ruby, R, Matlab, Scala, or Java
- Two (2) years of working experience with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Impala, Spark, or Kafka
- Five (5) years of managing data scientists/analysts or similar as well as project management experience
Preferences
- Advanced degree with analytical and/or business intelligence (BI) focus
- Background in banking and/or other financial services
- May require experience in libraries such as TensorFlow, Pytorch, or Keras
- Experience in Agile Software Development practice
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners
- Ability to effectively interact with business, technical and quantitative groups
- Advanced skill in analyzing large, complex, multi-dimensional datasets
- Advanced Structured Query Language (SQL) skills
- Comfortable with both relational databases and Hadoop-based data mining frameworks
- Deep understanding of statistical and predictive modeling concepts, machine learning approaches, clustering and classification techniques, and recommendation and optimization algorithms
- Demonstrated success making recommendations and solving problems with Big Data
- Familiarity with Data Management Platforms (DMPs) and real-time decision systems
- Strong business acumen with the ability to communicate with both business and IT leaders
- Strong communication skills through data visualizations as well as written and oral presentations
