Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Student Leadership & Civic Development, the Student Leadership Coordinator will coordinate a district-wide leadership program rooted in shared mission, vision, and values. This program will cultivate student leadership by emphasizing personal growth, civic responsibility, and community advocacy. The coordinator will lead efforts to recruit, hire, and develop student leaders through a structured process that includes defining outcomes, sequencing content, and assessing impact.

This position will align programming with the division's broader leadership plan, grounded in critical theories and social change philosophies. The coordinator will work to foster an inclusive environment, challenging students to analyze decisions of the past, present, and future while equipping them with the skills to enact positive change in their communities.

The Student Leadership Coordinator oversees a cohesive leadership development program designed through a defined process of mission and vision alignment, research, content sequencing, assessment, and continuous improvement. This position integrates critical pedagogies, social change frameworks, and institutional context to create an impactful program. The coordinator collaborates extensively to build a sustainable, equity-centered leadership program that fosters student engagement and success.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership Programming and Development:
  • Coordinate a comprehensive student leadership program following a structured development process, including mission/vision alignment, research, student outcomes, content sequencing, and assessment.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and supervision of a diverse team of student government leaders, fostering personal growth, leadership preparation, and civic engagement.
  • Infuse core values-personal growth and empowerment, civic responsibility, leadership preparation, and agency/advocacy-into all programming elements.

Collaboration and Partnerships:

  • Partner with faculty, staff, and community stakeholders to align leadership initiatives with institutional goals and social change frameworks.
  • Integrate the leadership program into divisional and curricular initiatives, including the annual leadership conference, to create a seamless student experience.

Student Success Initiatives:
  • Develop and implement strategies to support all students, acknowledging underrepresented and marginalized populations and emphasizing mentorship, community advocacy, and agentic learning.
  • Facilitate opportunities for students to connect with peers, reflect on their leadership identity, and engage in meaningful community-building activities.
  • Contributes to or leads Division and District-level initiatives and strategic objectives as directed; may lead committees, councils, or other PCC groups; acts as a change agent.

Training and Facilitation:
  • Design and facilitate workshops and training sessions incorporating social change theories, leadership identity development, and community cultural wealth.
  • Utilize philosophies and theories, such as Social Change Ecosystem and others, to guide the development of training efforts.

Assessment and Continuous Improvement:
  • Develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of leadership programs and student learning outcomes.
  • Analyze data and use findings to inform continuous program improvements, ensuring alignment with institutional values and goals.
  • Lead program review cycles and collaborate with colleagues to address gaps and enhance impact.

Advisory Roles:
  • Provide mentorship to student leaders, emphasizing the role of mentorship in leadership identity development and advocacy.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Organizational Leadership, Multicultural Studies, Social Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field. Equivalent experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

Experience:
  • Three years of experience supporting programs or services in diverse settings, including at least one year supporting leadership development, civic engagement, or similar initiatives.

    Starting Salary Expectations
    Minimum$71174 to range midpoint of $73665. Placement will generally not exceed themid-point, based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.
    Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
    Work is performed in an office environment. Moderate physical exertion. Occasional lifting of materials which may weigh up to 50 pounds. Occasional travel and the ability to work some evening and weekend hours required.
