THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Group COO, the Vice President of Operations will lead a key strategic area within Galvion. The successful candidate will provide leadership, strategic direction and drive transformational programs that deliver maximum value, quality and efficiencies across Operations. The candidate will be responsible for substantially contributing to the productivity and growth of the business through streamlining the processes and proactive engagement with key shared services leaders and stakeholders across the corporation. They will think strategically while being able to operate tactically to continue to drive growth while defining key success criteria for all 3 North American manufacturing locations and their Site Leaders. In this hands-on role, they will work with other Corporate Shared Services to build and drive a high-performance team. The successful candidate will come with several years of end-to-end experience of converting a design into a volume production via robust DfM, supply chain management and supplier quality initiatives. They will implement Key Strategic Initiatives in a manner that ensures Galvion will continue to exceed our customers' expectations, while maintaining a high level of profitability, and setting the stage for a sustained rapid growth. This person will require to be based out of Newport, VT facility permanently or at least be present in Newport facility 4 days per week while traveling to other sites in MA and NH as required.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Provide clear leadership and direction to local plant managers on a day-to-day basis to achieve production targets via KPIs and SMART goals
Provide coaching, mentoring and development goals to Site leads, Planners & Process Engineers
Work with COO in formulating a strategic operating vision and mission that creates a positive work environment which supports sustained profitable growth through excellence and efficiency
Lead initiatives to optimize manufacturing processes using lean methods and advanced technologies/automation and data analytics without impacting the current standards of quality, performance, reliability or on-time delivery
Maintain a visible presence to the organization and collect first-hand knowledge of the health of the workforce through use of "management by walking around" techniques
Demonstrate a consistent commitment to safety, take personal responsibility to prevent hazardous situations and build a participatory environment to identify and resolve safety issues
Monitor P&L performance and execute to achieve operational and financial targets via industry best practices such as SIOP and Demand Based Production Planning
Drive the sense of urgency and sales linearity month-over-month, in line with Working Capital and Free Cash Flow expectations
Partner cross-functionally with sales, product development, finance and contracts team to align operations with business priorities
Partner with the Supply Chain and Finance leaders to maintain correct levels of inventory and working capital without impacting the cash flow or On-Time Delivery performance
Develop a global manufacturing strategy, including regionalization where required / possible align with a CAPEX budget and ROI estimation
Drive implementation of Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement processes and Lean Six Sigma principles across all facilities
Promote sustainability initiatives to minimize the company's environmental impact
Instrumental in execution of short- and long-term corporate goals including Make/Buy decisions
Negotiate and manage contracts with major suppliers of outsourced components and services
Provide expertise in design and utilization of our ERP system (Syteline) to maximize operational efficiency via industry best practices
Work with legal counsel to ensure Galvion is compliant with all import / export laws and customer requirements
Prioritize and lead initiatives collaboratively to achieve best quality, delivery and cost
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
Undergraduate degree in Engineering - Essential
MBA or equivalent Professional Qualification in Business Management - Essential
Masters degree in Operations Management or Industrial Management - Preferred
Lean Six Sigma certification (black belt) - Preferred
Project Management, Quailty or Supply Chain qualification - Preferred
Proven record of success as a hands-on leader with at least 10 years of experience in a similar leadership level role (Director) with a history of progressively increasing responsibilities in a multi-site operation
Executive Presence with strong leadership and communication skills
Analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions
Ability to multi-task and follow through on multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations in a fast-paced environment
Experience in global supply chain management, negotiating supplier agreements and contracts
Experience with designing and implementing Kanban and supplier pull systems
Working understanding of site utilities - Able to converse and challenge vendors throughout the project life cycle
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality management systems and regulatory requirements (ideally within Aerospace & Defense or Precision Manufacturing setup)
Financial acumen, budget preparation and management as well as cost improvement experience is essential
Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
Proficiency in ERP systems; Implementation experience desirable
Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.
Strong background using ERP systems required with Syteline and / or Arena experience a plus.
Experience with international shipping and import / export compliance.
Military experience a plus.
Multiple days will need to be spent each week in the Newport, VT facility. Some travel may be required between other Galvion facilities.
