Resident Engineer - Transportation & Infrastructure

Location: Sacramento, CA

Join our team at Atlas as a Resident Engineer and help deliver essential infrastructure projects that directly impact the communities we serve. We're looking for a highly motivated, experienced professional to lead the on-site construction management efforts on major transportation and civil engineering projects in the Sacramento region.

What You'll Do:
  • Serve as the on-site lead to ensure all work is completed in accordance with contract plans, specifications, and applicable regulations.
  • Monitor construction operations to maintain safety for both workers and the public.
  • Manage and recommend contract changes, pay estimates, and final project acceptance.
  • Prepare detailed field reports, correspondence, and documentation to ensure compliance with all requirements.
  • Review design plans and estimates for accuracy, completeness, and constructability.
  • Support the resolution of construction claims and coordinate contract change orders.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental, traffic, stormwater, and safety requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in resource planning, including field offices, equipment, staking requests, and overtime management.
  • Act as a key point of contact with contractors, agencies, property owners, and the public.
  • Promote clear, professional communication with stakeholders and internal teams.

What You Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • California PE license preferred
  • 10+ years of construction management experience on transit or transportation projects valued at $30M or more.
  • 3+ years of supervisory or lead experience managing complex construction contracts.
  • Strong working knowledge of Caltrans standards, public agency coordination, and construction documentation.
  • Valid California Class C driver's license
  • Experience with construction contractors (Project Manager, Superintendent, or Engineer roles) is a plus.

Skills & Technical Knowledge:
  • Proficient in interpreting and enforcing engineering standards, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Experienced in coordinating labor compliance, civil rights regulations, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Confident making decisions on complex field and contract issues.
  • Comfortable leading field teams and resolving issues with contractors and stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Compensation:

$180k - $208k annual salary

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state's law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
