KBR is seeking a Subject Matter Expert - Optical Specialist to support the fabrication of lunar hollow retroreflectors. As a subject matter expert, the candidate will provide specialized and comprehensive expertise in conventional optical fabrication, single point diamond turning, precision optical assembly, ambient and cryogenic interferometric testing of optical components and systems along with new optical technology development.

Bachelor's degree in a related field plus 15 years' experience or 23 years of relevant experience.

Basic Compensation
$192,300 - $240,300
This pay range is applicable to the MD area only.
The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate's working location, knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience, and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation
KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.

KBR is seeking a Subject Matter Expert - Optical Specialist to support the fabrication of lunar hollow retroreflectors. As a subject matter expert, the candidate will provide specialized and comprehensive expertise in conventional optical fabrication, single point diamond turning, precision optical assembly, ambient and cryogenic interferometric testing of optical components and systems along with new optical technology development.
The successful candidate must:
- Be familiar with the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) optical fabrication and test facilities including laser interferometers
- Be familiar with the GSFC retroreflector thermal-optical test facility
- Work with a NASA team on the machining, polishing, coating, and testing of the optical components and their integration into the mechanical structure.
- Support the planning and implementation of lunar retroreflector integration and test activities.
- Develop test plans and procedures
- Participate in testing activities
- Prepare documentation and review material
Required Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a related field plus 15 years' experience or 23 years of relevant experience.
Desired Education, Experience, Skills or Training:
- Education or training in optical systems and engineering is beneficial to this position.
- A college degree or post-secondary school training from a military or vocational education program is highly desired.
- Knowledge of NASA's Space Geodesy Satellite Laser Ranging, including optical alignment and opto-mechanical design and consulting support is highly desired.
