The City of Richmond Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Technology Coordinator (Agency) to support their Information Services unit.
In this role, the successful candidate will provide information technology application, management, and network security support. This class coordinates with and is assisted by the Department of Information Technology but directly reports to and supports The Richmond Police Department. This position also implements network and user support. Incumbents perform complex technical support and troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing computers, networks, systems, and peripherals. As assigned, work may include: providing technical leadership in the repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, and tuning of computer, network, and communications systems; managing hardware and system installations or upgrade projects; VMware infrastructure coordinating with vendors for installation and maintenance; inspecting the quality of work performed by contractors; developing and providing user training; maintaining system documentation; maintaining work order and asset records; and performing data back-up and retrieval.
Incumbents may need to provide technical support for mobile data, WI-FI, networking, and telephony solutions.
Duties include but are not limited to
The ability to work an on-call rotation schedule in a 24 x 7 environment is required.
Successful completion of an interview, thorough background investigation, which may include a polygraph exam and drug/alcohol screening, is required. Please note that the Police Department background process may take up to 45-60 days. An applicant disqualified from the Police background process may reapply a year after disqualification.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses
Considerable knowledge of assembly, installation, and use of Windows based PCs, general business practices, and City and state security policy and system access security levels; common computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite as well as more specialized computer programs such as Visual Studio, VCenter (VMware), Server environment, Microsoft Group Policy, etc.; enterprise networking basics; general systems management and networking; office equipment such as network cables, switches/routers, computers, security cameras, etc.; business Process improvement; specific and advanced technical skills in area of focus such as server administration reviews, data security.
Demonstrated skills analyzing and resolving system related issues; assisting with Help Desk calls; Server management (Virtual and File Servers); communicating with various internal and external departments; capacity planning; documenting system issues and resolutions; ensuring data integrity; backup and recovery; performing business analysis; prioritizing work and assigned tasks; providing technical expertise in a variety of areas such as computer installations, configuring and implementing PCs, peripheral devices, hardware, software applications, etc.; researching and resolving issues; assisting end-users with hardware and software related issues; troubleshooting; using judgment and discretion to determine when problem requires on-site visitation; user management and access control; writing functional specifications; oral and written communication; and customer service

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate's degree in computer science or related field
- Three years of maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair experience in area of assignment
- Bachelor's degree in computer science preferred
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Some assignments may require a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire.
