Job SummaryResponsible for establishing, managing and enhancing relationships with strategic business customers, and segments who are complex users of energy and water, have a significant impact on the organization and community, and have complex and unique utility service needs. This position includes assuming leadership roles in associations that represent the strategic business accounts or segments and serve as point of contact for understanding segment needs and utility consumption patterns. Incumbents provide solutions to both individual customer issues and coordinate services to meet segment needs as well.
Incumbents are responsible for complex contract negotiations associated with utility service (e.g., second feed, enhanced power, rate options, unique operational agreements, etc.). They are also responsible for leading and/or contributing to strategic and departmental continuous improvement projects, programs, and services.

- Establish, manage and maintain effective business relationships with Key Account customer personnel who are our most complex consumers of energy and water; maintain proactive relationships internally and externally to retain high satisfaction, trust and relevancy with Key Account customers.
- Develop and maintain Key Account profiles and knowledge of customer's business operations, industries, markets, and business strategies to intersect with unique opportunities for shared City/Utility and Key Account goal alignment, e.g., sustainability/climate goals.
- Develop, implement and update strategic customer plans detailing Utilities opportunities to be pursued in partnership with Key Accounts, including documenting issues, decision steps for resolution, updating milestones, defining resource requirements, deliverables and monitoring processes to support current and future needs and wants.
- Coordinate and participate in negotiations with customers on behalf of Fort Collins Utilities in the development of agreements and/or contracts.
- Resolve complex problems requiring customized solutions involving financial analysis, customer risk analysis, legal review, knowledge of rates and technical utility terminology.
- Educate Key Accounts on utility-related issues around the core four services of electric, water, wastewater and stormwater by applying best-in-class and industry practices.
- Analyze energy and water consumption and billing for Key Account customers; provide load profile data and graphic analysis as needed; assist customers in understanding water and electric usage patterns, Facility Demand and Coincident Peak impacts and their associated costs.
- Coordinate City and Utilities resources for investigating, resolving and responding to commercial customer service issues.
- Assist with handling general utility business account inquiries on a rotating basis with the Utilities Business Resource Team, generally via email and phone.
- Develop plans for marketing and communications activities (e.g. newsletters, seminars, workshops, surveys, etc.) deploying messaging to enhance awareness and promote adoption of utility and senior staff initiatives.
- Identify and champion development of new customer-focused policies, programs, and strategic opportunities, critical to sustaining progressive and responsible businesses.
- Develop and maintain program reports; track contacts and other activities utilizing account tracking databases.
- Coordinate with Utilities senior management on customer issues.
- Participate as customer liaison in facility assessments in partnership with engineers.
- Perform on-call duty that supports quick and effective response to outages via direct customer contact, media, website and social media. May need to be on-site at outage sites or an emergency operations center.
