King County Metro Transit's Rail Division is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to serve as the Track & ROW Maintenance-Transit Chief
In this role, you will oversee the coordination, direction, and supervision of personnel responsible for maintaining railway signals and communications equipment. About Metro Transit's Expanding Rail Division
King County Metro Transit's Rail Division manages and maintains Sound Transit's Link light rail service and City of Seattle's streetcar system. Link light rail currently spans a 33-mile route from SeaTac to Lynnwood and a 6.6-mile route from Redmond to South Bellevue. By the end of 2026, light rail is projected to expand to nearly 60 route miles, adding seven new stations. Additional expansions to the Link system will be coming online for years to come.
Seattle Streetcar includes the 1.3 mile South Lake Union line and the 2.5 mile First Hill line, proudly serving the diverse and vibrant communities around Seattle's downtown core. These rail services complement Metro's extensive fixed-route bus system and mobility services. Puget Sound transit agencies are collaborating to create an integrated transit network that enables people to travel farther, faster, and more easily.
This recruitment will immediately fill one (1) fully benefitted Special Duty Assignment (SDA) position with an anticipated duration of 6 months, with the potential to extend. This recruitment may be used to create an eligibility list to fill future Special Duty Assignment (SDA) openings in this classification and within this division. Eligibility lists remain valid for six (6) months upon creation, or until the list is exhausted, at the discretion of the hiring authority.

Work Schedule
This position is anticipated to be full time, assigned 40 hours per week, Graveyard shift. Employees must be able to work this shift. Work schedule may include non- standard work hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is therefore not eligible for overtime pay.
SAFETY SENSITIVE
These positions are considered safety-sensitive. Working Conditions
Time is spent working both indoors and outdoors and in inclement weather. This position requires the use of everyday office equipment and supplies, the driving of heavy trucks involved in track and ROW maintenance as needed, and the use of typical maintenance tools and equipment as well as stooping and bending motions as necessary to demonstrate procedures or to inspect work.

Job Duties

As the Track & ROW Maintenance - Transit Chief, you will:
- Supervise, develop, and direct the work of Lead Track & ROW Maintainers, Track & ROW Maintainers, and Rail Laborers as well as providing management support of Track & Structure elements and controls within the section.
- Consult with engineering, warranty, safety, environmental, materials, transportation, contracts, and other staff in the development of maintenance programs and standard maintenance and operating procedures.
- Work closely with Sound Transit, Rail Division management, peers, and contractors to assure a safe, reliable, and efficient Light Rail operation. In addition, Chiefs also work hard to develop collaborative relationships both within Rail Operations and throughout Transit and King County.
- Interpret labor contract provisions in support of their supervisory role, including grievance resolution, establishing and developing collaborative relationships with Union leadership, and assisting in labor negotiations and contract changes as needed.
- Conduct investigations into employee misconduct, including customer complaints.
- Identify and participate in process improvement and other improvement efforts.
- Support safety and security, including coordinating and advising safety and security committees and making recommendations to management.
- Preform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
