Description:

Tesla is seeking a highly-motivated Controls Engineer to support the ramp of the factory, and contribute to the design of robust and stable equipment.
The Controls Engineer will work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire lifecycle of the product and processes. The Engineer will work closely with Quality, Process and Production to sustain and ramp existing production equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Ramp manufacturing lines including mechanical automation equipment, design of electromechanical systems, PLCs, motion controls, vison systems
  • Program state machines for complex processes which involve multi-station parallel processing, pick and place automation, data acquisition, and PID control
  • Manage Safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA), implementing controls reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high volume manufacturing equipment
  • Utilize tools for maintaining PLC code structure and back ups
  • Design robust, stable, fault-tolerant systems with error handling and recovery
  • Train technicians on the maintenance and repair of controls systems
  • Understand and troubleshoot electrical cabinets, field wiring, pneumatic and fluid plumbing
    Interface with the Tesla Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to communicate product acceptability, machine status, and process variables
  • Spearhead your own continuous improvement efforts in the endeavor to create the most reliable and efficient cell manufacturing plant ever


Requirements
  • Degree in an Engineering discipline (Controls and Computer Control Systems, Computer Science, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc.), or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience as a hands-on controls engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems
  • Proficiency in programming industrial equipment, with a focus on structured text and ladder logic
  • Experience with Beckhoff, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron, and/or Mitsubishi PLCs
  • Experience with Safety PLCs (Allen Bradley, Omron, Pilz, Siemens, etc.)
  • Human Machine Interface (HMI / GUI - Ignition, TIA/WinCC, AB Panelview, etc.)
  • Ethernet communications between PLCs, SCADA, MES, and other systems
  • Team player attitude with the ability to work closely with techs and engineers
    Field bus Networks (EtherCAT, ProfiNet, ProfiBus, Modbus, Powerlink, RS232, etc.) and OPC UA/MQTT
  • Experience in a web handling/material conveyance environment is preferred
