Project Overview
Provide technical support for the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the various power generation and transmission facilities owned and operated. Engineering responsibilities include inspections, condition assessments, startup and testing, troubleshooting, calculations, design, preparation of detailed fabrication/construction drawings and specifications, inter-discipline and inter-department coordination, engineering support during construction and outage, and equipment/system evaluations for mechanical systems and equipment.
Job Functions & Responsibilities
Provide responsible engineer function in support of a limited range of mechanical equipment design modification projects, equipment applications and failure research, engineering studies, and operations and maintenance activities. Perform inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various mechanical equipment and systems for proper installation and operation; problem identification and troubleshooting; or improvements. Provide direction and review for the mechanical design and drafting personnel in the development of the project drawings. Review work, including the designs and specifications, produced by other engineers. Provide office and field engineering support and oversight during construction or outage activities. Coordinating work with other disciplines and departments for the successful development and execution of the project. Perform inspections and evaluations on vendor products to ensure engineering requirements and Authority needs are satisfied. Gather information (site, vendors and other engineers) for engineering tasks. Renew or dispose of aging assets, in compliance with all applicable regulations, as necessary to support the AM strategy Identify and prioritize products and services required to execute strategic Asset Management projects; Conduct on-going risk analysis using key risk indicators and other risk identification methods considering both likelihood and impact of risks; develop formal risk response plans for risks above accepted risk appetite levels as prescribed in the AM Risk Framework
Skills
Experience and knowledge of utility, commercial and industrial facilities and the analysis, design and integration of their various mechanical systems and components. Ability to apply diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices, coupled with the understanding of the policies, operations, and objectives, to solve all but the most complex engineering problems, and make technical recommendations on design methods and obstacles on a project as well as programmatic level. Understanding of all the various types and disciplines' drawings required for transmission and generation facilities. Strong understanding of the fundamental drawing and specification system. Ability to develop complete, accurate and detailed modification packages, specifications, drawings and other engineered construction documents. Advanced knowledge of the various power generation facilities and basic knowledge of transmission facilities.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, from a recognized college or university. 5-10 years experience State Engineer in Training certification (FE ), PE preferred. Preferred strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering area of study (i.e. thermodynamic, materials, hydraulics, HVAC, controls, fluid flow, fire protection,) and various mechanical systems in the electrical utility industry.
