WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The Executive Director is the staff leader of the Chapter and works in partnership with Academy management and the Chapter's Board to strategically guide the Chapter's activities. You will be responsible for the implementation of the policies, procedures and programs of the Academy and the Chapter. You will maintain effective and efficient performance to ensure attainment of the Academy's objectives and high-quality service to members. You will be responsible for maintaining reasonable and appropriate fiscal controls to ensure the economic health of the Chapter. Specifically, you will be responsible for 1) engaging the chapter membership and the greater Memphis Chapter music community (The Memphis Chapter covers the region of West Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Missouri.), 2) developing and maintaining quality volunteer leadership for the Chapter, 3) developing and producing initiatives and services of high quality and professionalism throughout your Chapter area and, as appropriate, within their region, and 4) achieving excellence in all responsibilities.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The starting salary for this position is $80,400 to $95,000 per year, benchmarked against industry standards. Salaries for positions required to be in specific geographic locations reflect the corresponding labor market.

The GRAMMY Museum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating and exploring music from yesterday and today to inspire the music of tomorrow through music preservation, education, exhibitions, and public programming and aims to create a world in which shared love of music sparks curiosity, creativity, and community. WHAT YOU'LL DO
MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & RETENTION:
- Develop appropriate Chapter goals, strategies and programs to retain a highly qualified, relevant and diverse chapter membership. Specific areas of focus for this market include multi-city engagement opportunities, as well as genre outreach such as Rap, Hip-Hop, R&B, Jazz, Latin, Classical, Rock, Electronic Dance Music, Children's Music and others.
- Work in conjunction with any national Academy goals, plans and/or strategies.
- Keep membership properly informed as to the programs and objectives of the Academy.
VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP
- Manage the board and committee activities appropriately to expedite and achieve the objectives of the Academy.
- Cultivate volunteer leaders for service who are relevant, respected, active members of the community; manage board members expectations to needs of organization in finding opportunities for appropriate service.
- Keep volunteer leaders properly informed as to the programs and objectives of the Academy, including clear expectations of their role on the board.
INITIATIVES
- Develop and implement a strategic plan and chapter goals with metrics for targeted initiatives and services throughout chapter region.
- Develop, in conjunction with appropriate board members and Academy staff, high quality, high impact initiatives and services with broad reach in Chapter area including budgeting, promotion, securing revenues (admissions, sponsorships, etc.), speakers, artists, vendor relationships, and all other production aspects.
- Oversee and implement programs developed by the national office, the various entities within our Membership & Industry Relations department (including Advocacy related initiatives, DEI strategies, content development, GRAMMY University initiatives, Governance, the Producers & Engineers Wing, the Songwriters and Composers Wing, the GRAMMY Museum Foundation and the MusiCares Foundation as appropriate in chapter cities.
PERSONNEL
- Supervise all chapter staff including managers, interns, and temporary staff. Career Development, goal setting, training and evaluation are critical.
- Maintain proper company personnel policies to ensure effective staff management and absolute adherence to government requirements.
- Hire, train, manage, evaluate and discipline all Chapter staff.
- Work with the Senior Managing Director to utilize the National Member Engagement support team wherever necessary.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITES
- Maintain proper business management controls and fiscal and administrative communication with the national office, including timely and accurate accounting and budget reports.
- Develop annual chapter initiative budgets.
- Develop cost savings and revenues for all chapter special projects to operate in the black.
OTHER
- Maintain an appropriate and active participation in industry organizations that may be helpful in achieving the objectives of the Academy.
- Maintain familiarity with the legal and other professional issues necessary for the successful operation of the region.
- Maintain professional relationships with staff of the Academy cross-departmentally, including with our affiliates (Latin Recording Academy, MusiCares, GRAMMY Museum).
- Build coalitions with organizations in the recording industry, the arts community, the government sector, and others that will assist in the achievement of Academy goals and pursuits.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of work experience in a related field required.
- Active familiarity with the technical and creative dynamics, business issues and leaders of the recording industry.
- Experience working with a board of directors, advisory board, or equivalent leadership body.
- Clear and compelling fiscal management experience.
- Demonstrated experience in special event and/or project management, including attaining sponsorships and donations.
- Strong public speaking abilities to represent the Academy in the community.
- Experience and interpersonal attributes necessary to successfully manage a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships and consistently demonstrate a positive and professional demeanor.
- Must be organized with the ability to keep information accessible.
- Ability to successfully establish goals and deadlines while meeting commitments and prioritizing/managing multiple projects and objectives efficiently.
- Must remain flexible and adaptable to change, adjusting plans to meet changing needs.
- Ability to anticipate and diffuse conflict, negotiate effectively, build consensus, and make difficult decisions independently as needed.
