Whitaker Transportation LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary, and operating as the transportation arm of the Whitaker organization founded in 1953, has over 67 years of experience in the heavy civil and underground utility construction industry. Whitaker, an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, has become one of the largest contractors in the intermountain area with more than 400 employees and nearly 50 crews. We perform sanitary sewer, storm drain, culinary water, irrigation, earthwork, roadway construction, dams, landfills, natural gas pipelines, industrial piping, and telecommunication projects primarily in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon.
JOB SUMMARY:
A Transportation Manager is responsible for coordinating the scheduling of drivers, trucks, and construction aggregates between various job sites with managers, customers, leasers, and vendors. This position will also be responsible for keeping records, monitoring drivers' daily logs, enhancing driver performance, and maintaining driver safety.
RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES:

Supervise dispatchers and drivers including managing performance outlined in established KPI's with an emphasis on safety, productivity, efficiency, and service delivery.
Responsible for implementing and monitoring weekly reports to ensure financial objectives are being met.
Develop management reporting of the net-revenue budget, analyzing P&L statements, invoicing and creating operational or financial reports.
Ensures the achievement of OSHA related targets for recordable incidents and lost time incidents.
Ensure all trucks are DOT legal (current registration, permits, IFTA, etc.)
Have a firm understanding of federal and state DOT regulations and laws.
Maintain and keep DOT records current at all times.
Maintain and keep up to date vendor packets and contract records with leasers/vendors.
Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures for efficient transportation operations.
Promote the company's safety culture to include driver safety messages, driver safety briefings, quarterly driver training, annual reviews, and enforce company policies to ensure DOT compliance and company safety requirements are being met.
Recruit, interview, select, train, motivate, coach, and mentor office staff and drivers.
Strong ability to ascertain and implement solutions when issues emerge regarding vendors, customers, and employees.
Handle large volume of phone calls/emails in a timely manner.
Ensure all regular preventative maintenance services are scheduled on time and all safety related mechanical issues are fixed in a timely manner.
Scheduling and coordinating daily truck schedules.
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:
Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business Administration or other related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the transportation industry.
Working knowledge of DOT and IFTA guidelines.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Strong attention to detail including good analytical and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to effectively manage time and resource.
Find potential issues ahead of time and be able to problem solve.
Effectively work under pressure and prioritize duties.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Display a willingness to adapt, learn and grow, according to the needs of the company.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able and willing to work long hours including days, nights, weekends, and work outside of normal hours.
Able to sit, type, and perform computer work for long periods of time.
Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, feel, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds.
Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, and job hazards.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
