Job Description:
All employees of Renaissance Secondary School will work together to achieve our school's vision and mission. The School Nurse Consultant is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well being, academic success, and lifelong achievement of students through removal of health related barriers and promotion of optimal wellness. The School Nurse Consultant collaborates with all stakeholders in coordination of multi-tiered systems of support to ensure personalized care for every student. Develops and promotes good
community relations among various district and community clientele.
Part-time (.2 - .3 FTE); as needed

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

Responsibilities:
Provide general training and safety plans involving first aid training and the care of sick children who come to the classroom teacher or office staff with a health need
Train the Health Assistants and monitor Health Room activities as required
Create and review Health Care Plans
Interpret and educate school personnel in department policies, related school district policies and Colorado State Laws (significant Health Conditions List, child abuse reports, emergency procedures, health screenings and assessment, immunizations, substance abuse, medication use, first aid training)
Track, monitor and enter data for immunizations and compliance with State mandates
Complete, update and maintain student records (accident reports, health records)
Provide well student care, health care, first aid, immunizations and assistance to students as well as screen for nuisance diseases such as lice or ringworm. Implement Infection Control Procedures as necessary
Collaborate with other school and health care staff to maintain and promote a safe and healthy environment
Establish procedures for and/or provides for emergency care and management of illnesses and injury; provide emergency care that includes timely and appropriate referral
Oversee the tracking of require student health information and medical related information on permission forms for Adventure Education voyages

General
Promote and maintain a positive and effective school culture by ensuring that all interactions with staff,
students, parents, and the public at large are prompt, efficient, helpful, and friendly
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Special Services Provider License - School Nurse - Colorado Department of Education

Preferred skills and work experience:
Nursing experience in an educational environment.
Effective communication, organizational, and delegation skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, and Infinite Campus.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching throughout the day. The employee must lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds. Responsibilities:

--- Design disease prevention and health promotion strategies for the students and school staff.

--- Document health related services in designated Medicaid documentation system for the DCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement Program as assigned.

--- Obtain and interpret student health data for special education assessments and 504 accommodation plans.

--- Participate in comprehensive health education programs and school health policy development.

--- Ensure safe delegation of nursing interventions to unlicensed assistive personnel by adhering to the provisions of the Colorado Nurse Practice Act (CRS 12-38-101).

--- Develop lesson plans and/or outlines for identified health education needs.

--- Develop a health care plan to meet students' individual health needs in the school setting.

--- Identify students with health needs requiring modifications or accommodations in the school setting or during school sponsored events and activities.

--- Participate in professional growth opportunities.

--- Use evaluation of student outcomes to measure the effectiveness of intervention.

--- Provide direct health services for the student when appropriate.

--- Participate as the health expert on the RTI, special education and 504 teams by mitigating health related obstacles to learning.

--- Assess the health of the school community and advocate for physical and emotional safety through collaboration with all stakeholders.

--- Collaborate with others to fulfill responsibilities related to building district, regional and state goals and priorities.

--- Assure student health information is protected in accordance with Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
