Job Overview

A growing food manufacturing company is seeking a Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager to lead its FSQA function at the plant level. This individual will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining food safety and quality programs that ensure compliance with local, federal, and industry regulations, as well as third-party certification standards. This is a highly collaborative and visible leadership role, overseeing FSQA Supervisors and ensuring cross-functional alignment across operations, sanitation, and corporate quality.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the FSQA department to ensure raw materials and finished goods meet internal specifications and customer expectations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain programs supporting food safety fundamentals in coordination with the broader corporate FSQA team.
  • Drive effective communication of food safety and quality programs across departments, including the SQF system and audit requirements.
  • Manage corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes to address deviations and maintain compliance.
  • Oversee training programs to build team-wide competency in GMPs, food safety, and quality procedures.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and corporate teams to resolve quality concerns and mitigate risk.
  • Support internal audits and sanitation verification programs to ensure plant cleanliness and documentation accuracy.
  • Coach and evaluate FSQA Supervisors, providing ongoing feedback and professional development.
  • Participate in key decisions regarding hiring, performance management, and departmental growth.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities through root cause analysis and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer concerns related to food safety and quality.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the FSQA department.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company information and act in alignment with safety and food quality policies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of FSQA leadership experience in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in laboratory environments and quality systems.
  • Certified in SQF, HACCP, and PCQI.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-shift department and manage people managers.
  • Experience in audit preparation, food safety program development, and regulatory compliance.
  • Skilled in problem-solving, CAPA, and root cause analysis tools.
