The Gerry & Nancy Pencer Brain Tumor Centre at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network, is seeking a compassionate and dynamic individual to join our team as Nurse Coordinator. As Canada's largest multi-disciplinary brain tumor centre, we are dedicated to providing state-of-the-art medical treatment, enhanced supportive care, and education to patients and their families.

Position Overview

You will play a pivotal role in coordinating patient-related care and program development at The Gerry & Nancy Pencer Brain Tumor Centre. Serving as a liaison with referring physicians and institutions, the incumbent will lead in supporting individuals and their families affected by a brain tumor diagnosis,

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a resource for patients, families, and referring institutions, offering supportive counseling and education as needed.
  • Coordinate and actively participate in weekly CNS Multidisciplinary Rounds.
  • Provide support and orientation to staff joining the Pencer Tumor Centre program.
  • Coordinate and develop patient and caregiver supportive care programming
  • Oversee the updating and maintenance of patient educational materials and programs.
  • Chair the Pencer Centre Patient & Family Advisory Committee (PFAC), organizing meetings and related activities.
  • Act as liaison with the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, to advise and oversee fundraising initiatives
  • Review past and current supportive care services, revitalizing programs post-pandemic with consideration for virtual technology options and patient preferences.
  • Oversee performance of staff reporting to the coordinator including of the Pencer Centre Administrative Assistant and Rehabilitation Consultant.
  • Facilitate patient access to specialized treatments and enrollment in relevant programs.
  • Engage and provide expertise to other organizations involved with brain tumor advocacy, as appropriate.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required, Masters preferred, or equivalent.
  • Member in good standing, or eligible for membership, with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • At least 2 years experience working in neuro-oncology, or with people with neurodegenerative conditions or other acquired brain injury.
  • Experience in palliative care preferred.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-directed with exceptional leadership abilities.
  • Expert organizational skills with flexibility in managing priorities.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity, patient-centered orientation, and excellent communication skills.
