Job Description

Osler is driven by a strategic Vision to go beyond for our people and communities. As part of this commitment, we are embarking on an exciting digital transformation to implement a new, modernized hospital information system (HIS). Our dedicated HIS team will collaborate closely with our trusted HIS vendor (Epic) and internal subject matter experts to develop a fully functional system that will empower us to deliver exceptional care and services.

The Operational Database Administrator plays a critical role in supporting and administering Epic's underlying database and operational environments, with a strong focus on Linux/Unix-based systems. This position is part of the HIS project team, working closely with Epic technical resources and internal stakeholders to design, deliver and maintain a highly available and optimized database environment to support clinical and non-clinical operations.

Accountabilities:
  • Install, configure and manage the Epic database environment, primarily running on Linux servers
  • Set up and maintain non-production, production, disaster recovery and reporting environments in alignment with Epic's architecture and best practices
  • Monitor database and system performance, troubleshoot operational issues and conduct root cause analysis using command-line tools and scripting
  • Apply system and database patches, upgrades and security updates to ensure integrity and stability of the Epic infrastructure
  • Perform environment cloning and refreshes as part of Epic's environment strategy
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure, Security and HIS teams to ensure system resilience, backup/restore procedures and business continuity
  • Write, maintain and enhance shell scripts or automation tools to streamline routine maintenance tasks and environment health checks
  • Participate in the Epic change control process and manage technical tasks related to change deployments
  • Document environment configuration, deployment procedures and recovery processes to support long-term sustainability
  • Work closely with Epic representatives, internal analysts and subject matter experts during build, validation and go-live phases
  • Achieve Epic certification and/or accreditation
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support
  • Work extended hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends) as required


Qualifications
  • University degree or college diploma in computer science or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum three years of experience with Unix/Linux system administration and scripting (e.g., Bash, KornShell)
  • Familiarity with InterSystems IRIS platform is an asset
  • Experience managing enterprise applications or HIS in hospital environments, especially EMRAM Stage 6 or higher, is highly desirable
  • Prior experience as a database administrator or Linux/Unix Systems administrator in a complex environment
  • Understanding of high availability strategies and disaster recovery planning in Linux-based systems
  • Experience using tools like top, vmstat, iostat, netstat, crontab, systemctl, lsof, etc., for system diagnostics and performance tuning
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and Windows environments is a plus but not essential
  • Experience with Epic system components (e.g., Chronicles, Hyperspace, Interconnect) is considered a strong asset
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a detail-oriented approach to documentation and issue resolution
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a high-pressure, time-sensitive project environment
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain relevant Epic certification(s)
  • Ability to travel to the United States as required

Hours: Currently days (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)

Salary Range: $85,839.00 - $107,308.50
