About Transfer Counseling:
College of the Canyons supports over 2,000 students annually in achieving their transfer goals. Students transfer to a number of CSU's, UC's, AICCU's, and out-of-state colleges and universities. This is a noninstructional counseling position with an emphasis in transfer and coordination of transfer services and supports. The position will also be a member of the Academic, Career, and Transfer Counseling Office.

"BIG PICTURE" RESPONSIBILITY:
College of the Canyons is seeking a faculty leader in the area of Transfer Counseling. This is an 11-MONTH professional, full-time tenure track position beginning in the 2025-2026 Academic Year. The position will focus on noninstructional counseling and delivery of transfer services and support and may include a combination of teaching, department, college, and community leadership functions.

Assignment may include day, evening, and weekend duties at all District sites.
Example of Duties

  • Serves as an integral member of the Academic, Career, and Transfer Counseling Office, conducting face-to-face and online transfer, academic, career, and life-skills counseling. May assist and/or support activities and operations of the Counseling Office
  • Coordinates transfer services and supports, to include annual Transfer Day event, end-of-year Transfer Celebration, ongoing transfer workshops, and open transfer application labs.
  • Creates, updates, and presents transfer workshop content and provides curriculum for other counselors to present at transfer workshops.
  • Reviews applications for Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) and certifies student eligibility, promotes the CSU Transfer Success Pathway (TSP), serves as a liaison between College of the Canyons and 4-year institutions, participates in statewide and regional transfer meetings and trainings, disseminates information and updates on transfer to Counseling colleagues, may assist with matters pertaining to Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) eVerify.
  • Maintains currency in transfer policies and requirements across all segments of higher education (CSU's, UC's, IACCU's, HBCU's, and Out-of-State)
  • Assists students in choosing and planning immediate and long-range educational goals, including developing abbreviated and comprehensive student education plans; assisting with students' career exploration and program selection; recommending adjustments to college and personal development.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains an accurate list of articulation agreements with private institutions.
  • Oversees the marketing of services and supports through flyers, email, website, coordination with Public Information Office; maintains transfer email distribution list.
  • Trains, provides direction, and schedules adjunct transfer counselors in coordination with the Department Chair.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with four-year college and university representatives and oversees the coordination and scheduling of transfer representative visits to campus.
  • Evaluates student aptitudes, abilities, and interests to advise them regarding career paths, career uncertainty, and current and future employment trends.
  • Interprets certificate, associate degree, and transfer related requirements.
  • Evaluates transcripts, clears prerequisites, and provides academic and transfer counseling.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate student support services, ensures students have the information needed to access services, and assists students in the cultivation of self-efficacy needed to effectively follow-through on referrals.
  • Develops and revises appropriate credit and noncredit program and course curriculum in response to discipline and workforce needs.
  • Participates in the development and refinement of policies, procedures, protocols, communications, and programmatic guidelines regarding transfer to ensure student success.
  • Participates in all course, program and institutional Student Learning Outcome (SLO) assessment processes.
  • Provides students with information regarding college and community resources, assists students with the procedures for enrollment, placement, financial aid, and academic progress.
  • Provides follow-up services to students experiencing academic difficulties.
  • Enters appropriate counseling notes and ensures that all data elements are entered into the District's electronic record keeping software.
  • Collaborates with campus faculty, staff, students, and departments in advocating for Canyons Promise students.
  • May teach credit and noncredit Counseling courses, in accordance with established course outlines.
  • Participates in additional faculty responsibilities, including college decision-making activities related to professional and academic matters. The activities will occur within the department as well as in the larger College setting and at all district campuses.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development and preparation related to best practices associated with pedagogy, andragogy, and all instructional (including virtual) teaching modalities to address anticipated student and instructional delivery needs.
  • Participates in and implements departmental and college program reviews.
  • May maintain office hours (if teaching as part of the assignment) and participates in department, division, and college committees and governance.
  • Conducts collegial responsibilities by participating in institutional committee assignments, shared governance, leadership, and campus life activities.
  • Participates in Academic, Career, and Transfer Counseling Office and Instructional Counseling Department program reviews.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Minimum Requirements

  • Possession of an unexpired California Community College Counselor Credential
OR
  • Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling
OR
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family therapist (MFT)

Conditions of Employment:

  • Initial Salary Placement on Academic Salary Schedule 1 is dependent on education and experience. Salary range is from: $87,228-$120,204 annually (adjusted for 12 months of pay per year). Physical Characteristics:
Position will require extended periods presenting material in a classroom setting, and frequent periods of movement from one area to another, which may include traversing to different floors of a building.
