JOB OVERVIEW

Provide engineering design, technical evaluation, considerations and proposals, as required. Maintain instructions and procedures up to date, prepare reports, review proposals from external organizations. Participate in training programs as required. On a periodic basis, supervise assigned staff involved in the above activities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Working in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and regulations:
  • Conduct and coordinate geotechnical and geophysical investigations, including boreholes and surface surveys, to obtain geological, seismic, and subgrade data. Prepare comprehensive technical specifications outlining geological and geotechnical requirements for plant design and construction.
  • Perform Foundation Interface Analysis (FIA) to ensure structural stability by evaluating construction plans, excavation stability, ground improvements, and validating design loads using advanced 3D modeling.
  • Assess Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI), including site-specific ground motion and subgrade properties, to evaluate interactions between reactor buildings and subgrade materials.
  • Develop and review specifications for Nuclear Site Subgrade Properties, including static and dynamic parameters for in-situ soil and rock materials, subsurface hydrological conditions, and site design requirements.
  • Define and evaluate seismic design parameters for Design Basis Seismic (DBS) and Beyond Design Basis Seismic (BDBS) events, encompassing ground motion spectra, subgrade dynamic properties, and seismic hazard analyses.
  • Conduct desk studies and gap analyses to identify and address data deficiencies. Collaborate on laboratory testing for subsurface materials to establish required engineering parameters.
  • Provide leadership on multidisciplinary teams, coordinating design phases, assigning tasks, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, including cost justifications, technical recommendations, and evaluations of proposed solutions. Deliver presentations to stakeholders and provide technical guidance as needed.
  • Supervise and mentor less experienced staff, developing training materials and conducting lectures to build expertise within the team
  • May be required to gather and collate data for use in department budget preparation and to monitor variances to annual budget and submit to Supervisor for reporting purposes.
  • On a periodic basis, supervise staff involved in the above activities by assigning and checking work and as required give instructions and direction.
  • Participate in training programs to further your own development and assist in the development of others. Attend lectures, do assignments, and write examinations.
  • Prepare or help prepare specifications for purchasing requisitions for material, services, and equipment.
  • Recommend research and development programs required to improve equipment, system or unit reliability or performance, chemical control, material performance, rates, and the like. Follow up on such research and development work and help coordinate as required. Provide all necessary information and assistance to facilitate such programs
  • Review proposals received from internal or external sources related to assigned area. Discuss proposal with originator as necessary to suggest changes or revisions as appropriate. Recommend disposition of proposal to Supervisor in writing for review and forwarding to approval authority.
  • Other Duties as Required


EXPERIENCE

We are seeking dynamic and results-driven professionals who have:
  • Training and geotechnical experience in the design, development, or construction of a nuclear facility or an industrial environment associated with the design, development, operation, geotechnical investigations, or maintenance of nuclear facilities and equipment.
  • Experience to solve problems, provide advice and guidance, initiate developmental studies, and to make recommendations during the design, commissioning, and operation of a nuclear facility; to evaluate geotechnical investigations and reports, and to perform economic studies and evaluations associated with the design, commissioning, and operation of a nuclear facility.
  • Further experience in the position to become familiar with the work and fully competent. A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
