DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ten or more years of progressively more responsible experience in facilities management in educational, hospital, government, or not-for-profit institutions, with five or more years of supervisory experience
  • General knowledge of mechanical trades (engineering services, plumbing, and electrical), architectural trades (carpentry, paint, and locksmith); and campus operations (grounds, custodial, automotive, shipping/receiving)
  • Strong ability to supervise and develop personnel.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven track record of outstanding customer service and service assessments and improvements.
  • Physical (required within 1 month of hire)
  • Familiarity and ease with utilizing computer technology used for work planning, communication, data gathering, and reporting, including computerized maintenance management software
  • Valid NYS Driver's License (copy required upon hire)
  • Ability to work with a diverse population presenting a variety of cultural, socioeconomic, developmental, and sexual identities. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or licensed tradesperson. (copy required upon hire)
  • Certifications in Facilities such as Certified Plant Engineer (CPE), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), or other related engineering/facilities designations.
  • Experience working within a labor union environment
  • New York State Certification in water treatment plant and distribution system operation
  • Knowledge of New York State Office of Family and Children Services (OCFS) and State Education Department (SED) building, fire, and safety codes

  • HOURS
    • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
    • Must be flexible to meet the needs of the program
    • On Call as needed


    SALARY

    $95,000 - $125,000

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Be able to handle all the physical responsibilities of the position, which includes but is not limited to lifting, moving, and prolonged periods of standing


    OBJECTIVES OF POSITION

    The Director of Facilities is responsible for planning, communication, facilitation, oversight, and coordination of the preventative maintenance, repairs, improvements, renovation, new construction, and presentation of all buildings and grounds, utilities, and vehicles of The William George Agency and the George Junior Republic Union Free School District. This role also supervises the department's day-to-day operations through supervisory personnel, skilled trades, and outside contractors assigned to the operation.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB
  • Provides leadership, supervision, and training to the campus Facilities Supervisors to include time management, programming, and facility technical competencies, including reviewing and evaluating work assignments for completion and compliance; makes recommendations for improvements and modifications.
  • Prepares specifications for physical plant projects; estimates costs for equipment, materials, labor, and supplies; prepares bid specifications for projects, equipment, and contracted services; oversees the site and building projects performed by outside contractors.
  • Ensures the proper hiring and training of facilities staff to encourage a consistent, positive, and prompt response to work requests. Conducts and approves all performance evaluations of facilities staff.
  • Develops controls and procedures to monitor work order requests for the assurance of effective and timely evaluation, assignment, completion, and close-out of routine and preventative maintenance of all facilities management and work production.
  • Develops multi-year operating budget and recommends priorities for departments and functions for which the position is responsible. Negotiates contracts and monitors expenditures to ensure that funds are effectively and appropriately used.
  • Establishes and implements short and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness and implements changes required for improvement.
  • Develops an organizational model that is focused on customer satisfaction, technology-infused, and forward-thinking.
  • Develop a plan for 24-7 emergency coverage relating to building maintenance and safety.
  • Participate in safety committees, task forces, and project teams and other duties as assigned
  • Responsible for adhering to and performing all duties following all rules, regulations, policies, and safety standards of The William George Agency and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, while upholding our mission, vision, and values.

    The William George Agency for Children's Services is located on a 650-acre campus nine miles northeast of Ithaca, in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. It is a private not-for-profit residential treatment center licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) that serves both male and female youth between the ages of 12 and 21, and their families, who present with significant mental health issues, behavioral difficulties, and substance abuse issues.
