Role Overview:

The Director of Pharmacy contributes to IHC's mission and goals of patient satisfaction, quality of care, and productivity. They oversee and ensure the effective and efficient management of the overall operation of all Indiana Health Centers through cooperative policy development, regular monitoring, and follow-up. The Director also ensures compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, IHC's mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.

The Pharmacy Manager and Pharmacists will report to this position.

Essential Functions:

Provide overall leadership and management of the pharmacy department, including budgeting, staffing, compliance, quality assurance, and strategic planning.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state pharmacy laws, HRSA 340B program requirements, DEA regulations, and accrediting body standards.
  • Managing all pharmacy employees, policies, and procedures.
  • Preparing drugs and prescription orders for collection or delivery.
  • Overseeing the ordering of equipment and supplies.
  • Controlling inventory.
  • Applying best practice protocols when storing prescription drugs and controlled substances.
  • Verifying prescription details with the healthcare specialists who prescribed them when required.
  • Maintaining an approved drug and controlled substances list and verifying expiry dates.
  • Monitoring product displays, shelves, and the general appearance of the pharmacy.
  • Addressing customers' requests and complaints.
  • Hiring and training new pharmacy employees and scheduling shifts.
  • Keeping accurate records of inventory, patient information, and insurance claims.
  • Coordinate coverage with pharmacists at all IHC Pharmacy locations as needed.
  • Will coordinate and manage courier services for sites without a pharmacy.
  • Develop and maintain the retail pharmacy at all IHC Pharmacy locations.
  • Will assist in creating and leading a Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee for the health centers.
  • Will assist with opening new pharmacies across IHC. Providing telepharmacy support when needed.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team on the progress and needs of the pharmacy staff at all IHC Pharmacy locations.
  • Ensuring pharmacy services are in line with state and federal requirements.
  • Assist with developing and utilizing Clinical Pharmacists for medication management for the health centers.
  • Providing guidance to health center providers on the recommended use, dosage, and possible side effects of medication.
  • Collaborate with health center providers on medication therapy plans for patients to improve quality of care and patient safety.
  • Provide medication management support to patients between provider visits.
  • Provide direct patient care, reviewing patient profiles, discussing health concerns, and supporting patients throughout treatment.


Requirements

  • A Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) accredited by the accreditation council for pharmacy education.
  • A bachelor's degree in business administration or a related degree.
  • State-approved license to practice as a pharmacist.
  • 3+ years of managerial experience in a pharmacy environment.

Preferred:
  • Experience in an FQHC or safety-net healthcare environment.
  • Experience integrating pharmacy services into integrated primary care.
  • Certified immunizer.
  • 5+ years of pharmacy experience in a retail setting including prescription filling and verification, records and legal compliance, pharmacy operations, pharmacy software, and technology systems and insurance.
  • Experience performing prescription dispensing.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable state and federal controlled substance laws.
