The Database Administrator III - Oracle will support the Department of the Interior (DOI) in a proactive manner to deliver best practiced-based services complying with DOI architecture and security standards.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the analysis and design of new application database systems and/or modifications or changes to existing systems.
  • Performs database research and analysis and provides recommendations for the most productive use of the variety of computer resources.
  • Performs capacity planning and management of database environments and recommends expansion/replacement of existing hardware and software components utilizing latest state-of-the-art hardware and software available from a range of commercial vendors.
  • Designs and implements high availability, clustered database systems in conjunction with other application technical representative.
  • Installs, upgrades, patches, maintains, monitors, performs tuning of all databases using database management/monitoring tools.
  • Designs and implements database backup and recovery and daily operational procedures in support of hosted database systems.
  • Performs database restores and recovery, participates in annual Disaster Recovery exercises and documents procedures and test results.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves technical problems and provides second level on-call support. Performs research for problems, defines solutions, performs research for problems, defines solutions, and coordinates implementation of solution with staff and customers.
  • Assists security staff in conducting internal system reviews and audits in accordance with defined policy/procedures to ensure system/component settings are as specified by security guidelines and STIGS.
  • Documents resolution of security findings.
  • Performs and documents database level auditing and tracking.
  • Maintain required audit review logs.
  • Ensures availability SLA is met for all databases.
  • Writes and submits after-action reviews for database outages that occur outside of the defined maintenance window.
  • Manages and responds to IT requests via Trouble Ticket System in accordance with customer SLA requirements.
  • Manages and maintains IT system changes via Change Request System in accordance with NBC Change Management Policy and Procedures.
  • Are available for participation in on-call schedule for technical out of hours support. The individual on-call is available during off-hours to resolve priority problems according to published procedures
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred and a minimum of eight years progressive database administration experience.
  • Expert level experience with Oracle versions 21c with Multi-Tenant Architecture.
  • Expert level experience with RMAN.
  • Expert level experience with MySQL 8.0.42 and above, on Linux/Windows servers.
  • For Oracle and MySQL, an Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification is preferred.
  • For MS SQL Server, a current Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) or Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) is preferred.
  • Proficient in PL/SQL programming concepts such as cursors, triggers, stored procedures, and packages.
  • Create and maintain scripts for ad-hoc reporting and gathering database information.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Must be able to pass the Public Trust Government background investigation
  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Ability to work closely with a small team
  • Ability to work in a high stress environment
