Job Description:

This Sr. Electrical Designer role involves a variety of electrical design, application, and verification tasks, including modifying existing schematics or adapting previous designs to meet specific customer needs or to modernize designs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret design schematics, sketches, specifications, and engineering data, ensuring the design of new machines, systems, and components or alterations to existing structures and parts.
  • Create layouts using CAD software and evaluate designs for fit, function, manufacturability, cost, and operational feasibility.
  • Perform basic calculations for electrical components such as fuses, starters, overload relays, and conductors, and redesign controls or units as needed to meet updated operational or design requirements.
  • Develop design sketches, specifications, preliminary layouts, bills of material, and instructions; maintain comprehensive product/project documentation.
  • Analyze and review engineering change requests, ensure compliance with project milestones, and direct drawing changes accordingly.
  • Consult with engineering specialists, vendors, and product catalogs to specify and incorporate relevant electrical components into designs; prepare drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams in the required format.
  • Provide support to other departments, troubleshoot manufacturing or procurement issues, maintain supplier relations, supervise trial runs, and assist with interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering documents in the shop.
  • Conduct field service visits to customer locations, providing technical assistance during installation and operations, identifying opportunities for manufacturing or operational improvements.
  • Lead and mentor less experienced team members, providing guidance and coaching.


Required Competencies:
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical assembly layouts.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical design principles and electrical code regulations (e.g., UL and NEC).
  • Strong understanding of machine shop and assembly practices.
  • Solid grasp of drafting practices and techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving, logical reasoning, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., Zuken E3, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Eplan, SolidWorks, automated schematics).
  • Ability to manage customer relationships and work on-site at customer facilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to independently resolve issues and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage various responsibilities with a flexible, positive attitude.


Education & Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required; an associate or technical degree in electrical design or drafting is preferred.
  • 7+ years of electrical design experience is typically required.
