The Job
This recruitment is only open to current San Bernardino County, Fire Department, or Special Districts employees who hold a regular, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, Work Experience Program (WEX) or intern position. The Sheriff's Department, Scientific Investigations Division, is recruiting for a Quality Manager to ensure that a high standard of quality is maintained throughout the lab in the handling, analysis, and preservation of evidence, in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ANAB AR 3125 accreditation requirements. Essential duties include overseeing the quality management system, ensuring compliance with all accreditation and laboratory requirements, maintaining quality assurance documents and processes, conducting periodic audits of the quality system, and investigating and proposing corrective actions as needed.
3% Annual Across the Board Salary Increases in February 2026
Bi-annual step increases of 2.5% up to Step 14

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1) Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.
2) Shift: Applicants must be available for all shifts; incumbents will be required to work rotating shifts, or be on call for work, on weekends, holidays, and evenings, including mandatory overtime; refusal of assigned shift may result in removal from the list or termination.
3) License: A valid California Class C Driver License is required at time of appointment. Employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles and show proof of automobile liability insurance.
3) Physical: Incumbents conducting investigations in the field must be able to climb up and down embankments and hike over rough terrain.
5) Must successfully complete ANAB Forensic Technical Assessor Training within one year of appointment, or be terminated.
6) Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or forensic science.

Experience: Three (3) years of full-time paid experience in a law enforcement forensic laboratory with expertise in performing analysis, comparison and identification of typical forensic samples in the following: Firearms/Toolmarks, DNA/Serology, Trace Evidence, Toxicology, Solid Dose Drug Analysis, or Alcohol Analysis.
Substitution: A master's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or forensic science may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
A legible copy of your college transcripts are required and MUST be submitted with the application (unofficial transcripts are acceptable).
Qualifying degree and coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service indicating equivalency to degrees or coursework as above.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience performing quality assurance duties in a forensic laboratory and/or experience as a Lead or Technical Assessor with ANAB having participated in assessments of other crime laboratories.
