Job Summary
The Manager, Pharmacy Quality Assurance & Patient Safety ensures pharmacy policies and procedures are followed in order to fully comply with government and regulatory requirements. To maintain relationships with professional organizations to obtain knowledge of Consumer Medication Information and assure adherence to FDA mandated programs. To ensure implementation of all Quality Assurance programs, policies, and procedures to provide optimal patient care and minimize the occurrence of quality related events. Also provides accurate and timely medical and scientific information regarding specific products, upon the request of internal and external business partners, healthcare professionals (HCPs) and consumers. The Manager will be responsible for the identification of frequently asked medical information inquiries and the development of appropriately researched, standardized responses. Accountable for maintaining relationships with vendors who provide medical information and represent Walgreens in conferences discussing developments in medical information.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and provide medical and scientific information, including Standard and Custom Response
  • Letters and FAQs to both internal and external customers.
  • Maintains an in-depth understanding of therapeutic area/product knowledge and relevant data for Walgreens and current awareness of published literature.
  • Manages Drug Information vendor relationships which process all drug interactions. Maintains vendor relationship and acts as SME to organization regarding drug info. Involved in database investigation of inquiries from both internal and external clients.
  • Designs, develops, operationalizes, and maintains quality assurance projects that mitigate errors and enhance safety. Maintains all FDA mandated risk mitigation strategies which involve launching drug manufacturing products with our area providing guidance to FDA and manufacturers.
  • Participate in required meetings such as medical/scientific reviews. Maintains awareness of medical/scientific review trends in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Is Medical Information expert for internal Walgreens' departments and provide responses for Ad hoc projects as necessary.
  • May be required to represent Walgreens at clinical conferences by providing on-site access to medical information.
  • Ability to manage a crisis in the event of mass incident.
  • Attend professional association conferences (i.e. ASHP, AMCP, DIA).
  • Precept fourth year pharmacy students.
  • Allocates available resources to meet operating objectives. Develops and mentors staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation; ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace.
  • Work closely with Pharmacy Health and Wellness Technology Services to improve and enhance the patient incident reporting system and other quality systems in retail pharmacy.
  • Maintain interactions with Patient Safety Organizations: AHRQ (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality) and HHS health and Human Services.
  • Interact with FDA, and NACDS regarding CMI (consumer medication information) and medication guides.

External Basic Qualifications

  • PharmD and at least 3 years of experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare industry, or drug information role (ie. Drug Information Associate, Drug Information Manager) OR BSPharm and 5 years experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare industry, or drug information role.
  • Bachelor's Degree and at least 3 years of experience in Drug /Patient Safety.
  • Required licensure as an RPh as granted by the appropriate licensing authority.
  • Experience evaluating information to determine compliance with standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Experience working in an environment, such as healthcare, pharmaceutical, or a drug information role that requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using SUM function, setting borders, setting column width, inserting charts, using text wrap, sorting, setting headers and footers and/or print scaling).
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: inserting headers, page breaks, page numbers and tables and/or adjusting table columns).
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: applying a theme, formatting character spacing, inserting a picture, changing slide layout and theme colors, adding transitions, customizing slide numbers, changing chart style and/or formatting font). .
  • Experience working with medical Information materials and resources; perform complete literature searches for fulfillment of medical information inquiries.
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 2 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a residency training program in drug information.
