Chief Purpose of this position:
We are seeking candidates todirectly care for patients in the pediatric orthopaedic service line. Thecandidate will improve quality and efficiency of orthopaedic services at VCUHealth System and provide prompt high-quality pediatric orthopaedic care. Theincumbent will assist and develop orthopaedic faculty with interest in newtechnologies, clinical research and teaching along with mentoring residents andfellows and working within the hospital system and with other departments toprovide multidisciplinary care for pediatric orthopaedic patients.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Teaching
The candidate will staffinpatient services with learners including medical students, interns andresidents; use contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-basedpractice; demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as ateacher for learners at all levels; complete required evaluations of learnersin a timely manner.
2. Research
The candidate will participate in clinical and administrativeresearch, according to skills, interest and funding; research opportunities mayinclude performance improvement initiatives or formal extramurally fundedinvestigations; participation may be as principal investigator orco-investigator; maintain a level of scholarship in orthopaedic surgery consistentwith academic rank.
3. Service
The candidate will work with institutionalstaff and administration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU HealthSystem, including patient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction,maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health.
4. Clinical
The candidate will admit andmanage patients who present through the pediatric orthopaedic service,co-management of patients on other services, triage medicine patient requiringadmission in the Emergency Department and non-medical services and non-VCUhospitals; join colleagues in assuring coverage 24-hours a day, every day ofthe year; comply in a timely manner with all institutional policies forprofessional work including credentialing, documentation, billing; workeffectively with other members of the extended inter-professional team.
5. Other
The candidate will ensure compliance with allregulatory and regulatory reimbursement requirement.
Required Qualifications:
- M.D. degree and ABOS certification/eligibility in orthopaedic surgery.
- Must have successfully completed an accredited fellowship program in pediatric orthopaedic surgery.
- Record of scholarly publication in peer review journals.
- Direct experience managing complex pediatric orthopaedic cases, competence instandard inpatient procedures.
- A solid understanding of the pediatric orthopaedic role and function andinterest in teaching and growth in an academic setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team, providing effectivecommunication, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff andstudent environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VirginiaCommonwealth University.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability towork as a member of a team, providing effective communication, both verbal andwritten.
- Interest in furthering the research, scholarly and academic missions of thegroup.
