About this opportunity:

Join Cenovus Energy as a Downstream Process Automation and Control subject matter expert, leading our efforts in crafting, implementing, and optimizing automation systems. Recognized as the technical authority in one or more refining technologies (e.g., FCCU, Hydrocracking, Hydrotreating, Distillation, Sulfur Recovery), you will provide critical expertise to enhance process safety, reliability, and performance, with the potential to deliver up to $50M/year in value through reduced operational risk and optimized spend. Preference to individuals who currently reside or can relocate to Dublin, OH, or any of the US Cenovus Refineries. (Lima, OH; Toledo, OH; Superior, WI)

What you'll do:
  • Lead the Community of Practice in Process Automations and Controls to improve knowledge, implement consistent practices, and adhere to engineering standards.
  • Provide technical assurance on projects, acting as the authority on deviations from engineering or internal standards related to process controls and automation.
  • Mentor and develop technical resources at refineries on troubleshooting, monitoring tools, and standardization across downstream assets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate automation risks and build technical requirements.
  • Develop and implement a technical training agenda for control engineers and other technical staff in Process Automation and Control.


Who you are:
  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in engineering
  • 20+ years of downstream unit operations and technical experience
  • 5+ years of experience in the specific area of expertise
  • Knowledge of similar unit operations at multiple facilities, including supporting projects, commissioning start-ups, and technical support
  • Professional Certification or License in Engineering
