Position Description:

Reporting to the Sr. Director - R&D Tech@Lilly - Clinical Design & Operations, the Associate Director - Clinical Design will have direct responsibility for overseeing the implementation of business process enablement, automation, and innovation projects and service management of resulting solutions. This role will partner closely with the Clinical Design, Clinical Central Services, Investigator Experience, Trial Capabilities, Finance, and Clinical Trial Foundation business organizations to enable their needs. This role will also partner closely with the other R&D Tech @ Lilly, SPE Tech @ Lilly, AADS Tech @ Lilly, and Digital Core Tech @ Lilly teams to enable the portfolio of needs.

This position manages a direct staff of administrative and technical professionals with an overall organization of approximately 6-8 direct staff , 8 dotted line staff, and a large contingent of contractors. This Associate Director works with business and R&D Tech@Lilly leadership to determine and assist in resourcing appropriate for the Tech@Lilly portfolio. This leader will also be expected to partner with external strategic partners who bring relevant technical and domain experience to accelerate the business transformation and enablement agenda.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Partners with LRL Clinical Business and R&D Tech@Lilly management peers to implement the portfolio of business transformation projects across various clinical design and decentralized trial initiatives including planning and allocating appropriate sources based upon work activities, managing priorities within the group, and managing issues that arise in the normal course of business.
  • Partners with LRL Clinical Business, R&D Tech@Lilly, and other Tech@Lilly stakeholders to increase the capacity for Lilly Clinical through AI and Automation products and capabilities.
  • Accountable for effective management of Tech@Lilly associates including the reinforcement of compliance and ethics expectations, development of team objectives, managing performance, providing coaching and feedback, creating opportunities for development, ensuring appropriate reward and recognition, contributing to talent assessment, resolving HR issues, and supporting diversity in recruitment and development.
  • Implement business cases and documentation to support the rationale and priority for digital investments.
  • Partner with various delivery organizations (i.e., Clinical Tech, Software Engineering and Development, SPE, LCCI, Software Hub, Digital Core) to ensure high quality and timely product, platforms, and solution delivery.
  • Works with Tech@Lilly AI and Automation management and peer leaders to resource, provide solutions, and integrate completed AI and Automation solutions back into the clinical design & operations space.


What You Should Bring:
  • Clinical knowledge and/or experiences.
  • Experience with managing a large capital driven program.
  • Certifications and/or equivalent work experience in Cloud, AI and/or Automation related technologies - will be required to obtain certifications within 1 year of work if not already obtained.
  • Demonstrated experience with running large scale, high pace transformation programs.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to keep calm and collected in an inspection, be mature, and articulate well how we align/comply with the quality system.
  • Broad understanding of clinical processes and applications, and/or pharma industry knowledge and experience.
  • Business Relationship Management skills to enable capability and product development.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence peers and management (technology peers and internal/external customers & partners) to drive project and process outcomes.
  • Strong networking, interpersonal and relationship skills
  • Great self-management skills.
  • Strong learning agility.


Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a Computer Science or drug development related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale technology initiatives leveraging an agile methodology to derive business value with speed.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and successful implementation of technology platforms, products, and solutions utilizing agile, innovative thinking, and product management principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate businesses opportunities into appropriate technology systems and processes.
  • Management experience of at least 3 years.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$124,500 - $182,600

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
