Description Position title: Telecommunications Mechanic Location: Fort Detrick, MD Clearance level required: Secret Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): * Performs all administrative, operations and maintenance (O&M) functions, and routines required on Inside Plant (ISP) systems and equipment, including Avaya telephone switching equipment, Telephone Management System (TMS), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) programming, firewall and other ancillary equipment and systems directly connected to the switch. * Supports configuration, troubleshooting, installation, removal of Analog/Digital/VOIP telephone circuits. * Resolves customer trouble calls related to voice issues. * Commitment to deliver the very best customer service to a large organization. * Responsible for creation, modification, and remove of Voicemail user profiles on the Voice Infrastructure. Experience with Callegra Callware preferred. * Installs, tests, troubleshoots, programs, monitors, maintains, and repairs digital switching equipment, power and ringing relay racks, miscellaneous telephone, radio, fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and other circuits and related apparatus required in the central switching office. * Performs routine preventative maintenance on switch hardware and equipment. * Analyzes system failures and other unusual system occurrences to isolate the source of the problem and determine whether the failure is caused by software, hardware, or other factors. * Maintains manual and/or computerized central office records, including detail records, traffic analysis records, cable records, line records, subscriber service records, and spare parts inventories. * Support includes performing remote diagnostics, parts and material repair or replacement, emergency technical support, and technical documentation updates. * Maintains synchronous optical network. * Diagnoses and replaces faulty switch circuit packs and switching equipment. * Installs and troubleshoots T-1 circuits. * Responsible for T1 testing from Dmarc to remote locations. * Monitors and troubleshoot trunks. * As the main contact, maintains customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns and answering questions. * Interacts with vendors on circuit installation. * Performs work order and trouble ticket administration within the TMS. * Maintains safe work environment and conditions by following codes, standards, and legal regulations. * Provides other duties as assigned to support contract requirements. * Attends training sessions as required (DoD, Information Assurance, Security, Corporate). * Expert knowledge of Telephone Infrastructure and networking services. * Can install and terminate Cat6, knowing the difference between 568A and 568B configuration, understands the distance limitations of Cat6 and how to adapt to a fiber environment. * Comfortable working with ST, SC and LC fiber connections. * Experience splicing cooper telephone cables and color code knowledge a must. * Experience with fiber preferred. * Experience with the following equipment: TDR, Fault locator, Sidekick, OTDR, and ISDN. * Proficient in providing administration and documentation services, and in using MS Office Suite. * Preferred experience with Army I3A and C4IM standards and requirements. * Knowledge and experience implementing quality assurance processes for all projects to ensure equipment, systems, and software identified by the technical design specifications are properly configured and operated after deployment. * Administrative and technical capability with network engineering, integration engineering, network installation and testing methodologies, and performance scheduling. * BICSI certification training preferred. * Must be able to safely work: aloft, in confined spaces, and able to lift 50 pounds. Qualifications DoD 8570 IAT Level 2. At least one of the following must be current and maintained: * CCNA Security : Cisco Certified Network Associate Security (CCNA) demonstrates you have the skills needed to develop a secure infrastructure and mitigate cyberthreats. * CySA+ : This is an intermediate-level exam for security professionals focusing on vulnerability and threat analysis. * GICSP : The Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional demonstrates your knowledge to secure critical infrastructure assets. * GSEC : GIAC Security Essentials is a certification exam that demonstrates hands-on IT security capability. * Security+ CE : Security+ is a CompTIA exam focusing on cybersecurity issues. * CND: EC-Council's Certified Network Defender (CND) . The certificate is used to demonstrate knowledge in defensive cyber operations (Blue-Teaming). The CND certification teaches IT professionals about defensive mechanisms when protecting IT Systems against cyberattacks. * SSCP : Systems Security Certified Practitioner shows you have the skills needed to manage and monitor IT infrastructures and apply security policies. * Knowledge and experience with Avaya and VoIP communications systems
