Duties * Responds to and investigates emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service. * Collects and preserves evidence, conducts long and short-term investigations on criminal cases and analyze facts to identify suspects. * Provides sworn testimony based on the investigative process, evidence gathered, witness' statements in criminal and traffic courts. * Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar and breathalyzer. * Apprehends violators as required by applicable laws or regulations. * Responds to radio calls or reports situations that are general assistance. Requirements Conditions of Employment * Incumbent must be able obtain and maintain a valid Secret security clearance. * Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy; or successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date; or is a current employee and is considered grandfathered IAW AR 190-56. * Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes. * Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical / psychiatric evaluation. * Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter. * Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) * This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. * The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position. * Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004)position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions. * Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license. * Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. * Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime. * Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required. * Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or in judicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. GS 06 Specialized Experience : One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes applying basic laws and regulations to maintain order of protection concerning life and property; conducting vehicle and/or foot patrols; controlling access to restricted areas by verifying credentials and responding to emergency calls for assistance. GS 07 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes: performing a full range of law enforcement functions involving interpreting and/or applying discretion of law enforcement concerning Federal or State criminal laws and regulations, utilizing standard law enforcement techniques such as responding to calls involving crimes ranging from simple violations to felonies and ensuring the protection of health and safety for public who may be at risk for an organization. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution for experience is permitted.
