Duties * Complete all necessary diagnostic measures during a dental examination including oral cancer screening. * Make accurate radiographic diagnoses. * Make accurate impressions for models and prostheses used to restore edentulous areas to include dentures. * Perform dental prosthetic treatments such as filings, crowns, fixed partial dentures, space maintenance appliances, removable partial dentures, and using digital dentistry equipment. * Conduct oral health assessments, including X-rays, and provide cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants. * Diagnose dental caries, periapical pathology, periodontal disease, and pathological lesions of the oral and perioral cavity, and prescribe appropriate medication for treatment. * Perform exodontia (simple tooth extractions), pericoronitis treatment, and minor gingival procedures such as gingivoplasty, fiberotomy, mini-flap. Requirements Conditions of Employment * Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. * Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. * This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. * Must obtain and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network. * This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. * This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. * This position is a Testing Designated Position. All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. * Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series. * This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination. * This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment. * Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Basic Requirement for Dentist (General Practice): Education: Applicants must possess a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Experience and/or Education Required: A. Applicants must have completed a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science. OR B. Applicants must have three years of professional dentistry experience and/or training, equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12). OR C. Applicants must have completed a residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science AND professional dentistry experience and/or training equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12). When combining residency program and professional dentistry experience and/or training to qualify, the total must be equal to or greater than three years. Note for Qualifying Experience: Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position. Medical Requirement: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.
