Duties * Modifies and reworks locking devices to accomplish special security objectives designed to work in conjunction with other components and equipment to form a complete security or surveillance system. * Establishes and maintains master key coding systems. * Performs preventive maintenance on an security type containers such as safes, vaults, and combination file cabinets by detecting malfunctions of the locking mechanism and at the same time removing and replacing unserviceable locks, or restoring repairable locks to operating condition by disassembling, cleaning, and replacing worn, bent, or broken parts. * Makes new keys from duplications, impressions, and key codes from a variety or key blanks. * Uses and maintains tools. * Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, specifications, and work orders. * Utilizes safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and regulations and maJntains a safe, clean, and secure work environment. Requirements Conditions of Employment * U.S. Citizenship Required * Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov * The position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program * Disclosure of Political Appointments * Relocation costs or other incentives may be available and considered by the organization. * This position may require travel. * This position may require drug testing and the candidate may be subject to passing a drug test upon selection. * Selectee is expected to be granted with and/or maintain the appropriate security clearance required for the position. * Selectee may be required to serve a probationary or trial period. * May be required to assist other workers in various crafts * Shift work and/or overtime may be required * Keeps abreast of developments in lock and security systems by regularly reading/reviewing a variety of current publications as well as formal training and correspondence * Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, GSA container certification, plus four (4) years progressively responsible work experience as a Locksmith. * The successful completion of up to two (2) years of verifiable formal training in the trade (vocational, military, or indentured apprentice school) may be substituted for a like amount of the experience requirement. * Possession of a valid State of Florida Class E noncommercial driver's license, and any other license as may be required by law. Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4800 General Equipment Maintenance Family . Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: * Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. * Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) * Use of Measuring Instruments * Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) * Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment * Trouble shooting IDEAL CANDIDATE: Our ideal candidate is someone with integrity who take pride in their work, also is a TEAM player, works great with other members! Performs skilled locksmith work by installing, maintaining and repairing different types of building locks including cylindrical, unit, mortise and rim, and reload cylinders; cutting new or replacement keys for authorized personnel as requested on Key Request forms; repairing locks on desks, file cabinets, display cases, and similar containers; picking locks for which keys have been lost; repairing or replacing door closure panic hardware or ADA openers; and making emergency repairs of locks as required under emergency conditions. Assists in maintaining Master Key Systems for Eglin AFB by keeping accurate records of hardware changes and new lock installations in each building, and repairing, maintaining, and reloading cylinders for locks in the master key system. Aids during renovation of existing or construction of new facilities by determining the requirements for locking devices and systems from blueprints, schematics, or sketches, making recommendations for such systems based upon knowledge of available products, and installing or monitoring the installation of locking devices or systems on renovated or newly constructed facilities. Determines established applicable hardware specifications for locks and locking devices by interpreting hardware schedules, blueprints, plans, sketches, work orders, etc. Ensures that an adequate and appropriate stock of locksmith supplies and equipment is available for use by maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment including key blanks, lock parts, levers and springs, knobs, and cylinders, preparing requisitions for replacements items as necessary, and storing the supplies and equipment in a secure storage facility. Where applicable, maintains a coded log of padlocks and records key numbers and associated locks for all Eglin AFB. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
