Duties As a SECURITY SPECIALIST you will be responsible for the following duties: * Serves as a Security Specialist for the assigned regional area of responsibility (AOR) providing multifunctional security advice and support for the specialized areas of emphasis to include: personnel, operations, industrial, and information security. * Develops and implements security procedures and guidelines for the Area of Responsibility (AOR), and serves as an adviser for the assigned AOR. * Presents security assessment results and provides assistance to analyze the data, identify major strengths and weaknesses and determines methods to resolve issues or problems. * Provides guidance, advice, and responds to a variety of issues and complex problems related to personnel security. * Conducts periodic review of facilities and their personnel to assure protection against threats; investigates suspected security violations; and recommends or takes appropriate measures to correct security deficiencies. * Advises, recommends and issues guidance to personnel concerning classification of information, classification of work being conducted, proper derivative marking, storage, maintenance, dispatch, and destruction. * Responsible for providing training and ensuring all regional personnel receive annual security refresher training. The employee must possess and maintain a Top Secret security clearance based on an SSBI with eligibility for sensitive compartmented information (SCI). * The incumbent may be subject to random counterintelligence-scope polygraph examinations during employment. * The incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain the Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within one year of employment. * Position requires temporary duty (TDY) travel. * This position is designated as "Mission essential" for purposes of continuity of operations in an emergency. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have specialized experience sufficient to demonstrate that you have acquired all the competencies necessary to perform at a level equivalent in difficulty, responsibility, and complexity to the next lower grade (GS/GG-12) in the Federal service and are prepared to take on greater responsibility. Generally, this would include one year or more of such specialized experience. Specialized experience for this position includes: * Experience utilizing a wide range of security concepts, principles, and methodologies and skill and applying this knowledge to difficult and complex assignments; * Experience with multi-functional security administration (e.g.. information, operations and industrial security) and skill in applying this knowledge to the development of new methods, approaches, or procedures; * Experience with personnel security and reporting requirements. * Experience with security and administrative procedures involved in granting of clearances and release of classified materials. * Experience applying a wide range of security, technical and functional area knowledge to threat-unique mission security problems not covered by application of standard guidance or practices. * Experience providing guidance, advice, and responding to a variety of issues and complex problems related to personnel security. * Experience researching, updating and writing Operations Security procedures. * Experience planning, developing, and implementing security procedures to ensure that classified material is received, transmitted, handled, stored, and accounted for from the time of receipt until dispatched, returned, or destroyed. * Experience providing security training and ensuring personnel receive annual security refresher training in accordance with regulatory requirements. Education Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
